Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) wrote Capriccio Brillant, Op. 22 during his second vist to England. This charming example of Mendelssohn's writing for piano has two movements: an Andante with a gentle, reflective melody and an Allegro con fuoco that shatters the previous languid mood with a cascade of arpeggios that leads into a march-like principal theme. The solo piano part never lapses into dazzling technique for its own sake. It premiered in London by the Philharmonic Society on May 25th, 1832. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Piano.

Angesichts der großen Anzahl an Beatles-Bearbeitungen war es eine Herausforderung für Peter Kleine Schaars, die bekannten Melodien in ein völlig neues Gewand zu stecken. So kommen nun All You Need Is Love und With a Little Help from My Friends als Swing-Märsche einher; Michelle klingt fast wie eine völlig neu komponierte Ballade, während When I'm Sixty Four im Dixie Swing-Stil gespielt wird. A Hard Day's Night wurde in ein Funk-Thema mit einem Samba-Zwischenspiel verwandelt, Let It Be in einen langsamen Marsch und Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da schließlich in einen Rock Beat. Einfach brillant!A Hard Day's Night • All You Need is Love • Let It Be • Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da • When I am Sixty Four • With A Little Help From My Friends • MichelleLa musique des Beatles reste toujours aussi neuve et riche, et symbolise plus que jamais l'insouciance et la créativité des sixties. Albums et tournées triomphales se sont succédés : chaque apparition publique du groupe provoqua des émeutes. Avec Brilliant Beatles, vous transcenderez le public.

Chopin's waltzes were – contrary to, say, those by Schubert – no longer conceived for dancing or for the ballroom. These pieces assumed the form and function of idealized concert waltzes, which Chopin enjoyed performing in the elegant and exclusive art-loving salons of Paris. A particularly eloquent example is the “Grande Valse brillante” op. 18 which, with its multiplicity of charming melodic ideas and moods – now gently rocking, now overwhelming, now again triumphantly jubilant – became one of Chopin's most popular waltzes. The medium level of difficulty allows even less proficient pianists to become familiar with the “brilliant” side of Chopin through this waltz.

Allegro Brillante is the first movement of Dragonland for band. The first performance (under the original title, A Short Symphony) was given by the L.E. Dieruff High School Concert Band, conducted by Raymond S. Becker, Jr., on April 21, 1978. The work was subsequently revised, and first performed in its new version by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band, conducted by Donald S. George, on November 23rd, 1980. Allegro Brillante is the first movement of four. The music is almost profligate in its tunefulness, quick to change tack and tempo, and will benefit from an interpretation of headstrong abandon.
