Take a musical journey back to merry olde England with Suite of English Country Dances! The movements bear the names and capture the personalities of Robin Hood, Polly Oliver/Jenny Jones and a roguish country lad, The Curly Headed Plowboy. Pierre La Plante is a master at scoring folksongs for concert band, and this delightful work showcases his virtuosity at its best. A thoroughly enjoyable programmatic selection for performers and audiences alike, this work is certain to become yet another Pierre La Plante band classic. Our highest recommendation!

Transcribed and arranged for Piano by Lawrence RosenA new, 3-volume set of Mozart Dances for Piano, 14 of these dance suites are faithfully transcribed for piano at the early to advanced intermediate level. Almost all appear as new Mozart music for piano (except for the Six German Dances, K. 509, which Mozart himself arranged for piano.) Within each volume, they are arranged by increasing difficulty. They are eminently suited for teaching, recital and concert performance, encores, recording, sight-reading practice, and theoretical study. We sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as we did in discovering and creating these little masterpieces. Includes two copies of the performance score These pieces are inspired by the music and spirit of the Athabascan people of Alaska's boreal forest. The first and third dances are based on songs by Joe Beetus, a Koyukon elder from the village of Huslia. The second dance is based on a short traditional song of the Dena'ing people of the Kenai Peninsula, as remembered by the late Peter Kalifornsky and transcribed by the late Thomas F. Johnston. In their original setting these melodies would be sung in unison, with no harmony or counterpoint. Working as a composer in the Western tradition, I have extended and transformed them in many ways. I have 'borrowed' and 'set' these melodies with permission and with the hope that my treatment of them conveys my profound respect for their origins. The second and third pieces are derived from my setting of poems by Adeline Peter Raboff written in the dialect of her Gwich'in people, who inhabit the country from Arctic Village to Old Crow. I offer this music as a gesture of respect to the first peoples of the Northern Interior and the Kenai Peninsula. - John Luther Adams.

These four entertaining movements originated in the Thirties. They are an example of popular original compositions of high quality. The work was originally written for small orchestra. Norbert Studnitzky has arranged this series of dances for wind band and at the same time also retained longer chamber music pasages as in the original work. Thus here we have a work for wind band which on the one hand is suitable for developing a musical sense of humour in a playful way and which can also be performed on stage with a group of folk dancers.Ottmar Gerster studied in Frankfurt/main and then taught composition an several colleges of music in Leipzig. his music aims to be accesible to all listeners, even when he uses advanced composition techniques.(2 Floten, 1 Oboe ad lib., 1 Fagott ad lib., 1 Klarinette in Es ad lib., 3 Klarinetten in B, 2 Alt-Saxophone in Es, 1 Tenor-Saxophon in B, 3 Horner in F, 3 Trompeten in B, 3 Posaunen, 2 Flugelhorner in B, 3 Tenorhorner in B, 1 Bariton, 2 Tuben, Pauken, Schlagzeug: kleine Trommel, grosse Trommel, Triangel, Becken).

This collection of three, highly original pieces brings popular music styles to the forefront. They are called rogue because typically one would hear them on the dance floor, but these are designed for the recital hall. Electronic dance music (EDM), country stylings, and disco-funk will also sound great on both acoustic and digital keyboards. All three are as fun to play as they are to hear!

The Fair Maid of Wickham. Le finale expose les sémillants We Are All Right at Canterbury et Ramsgate Pier.

Kentish Dances was commissioned by the Bromley Youth Music Trust for the Bromley Youth Concert Band - Michael Purton, conductor. Bromley is in Kent, the most southeasterly of all the English counties. Kent has a rich folk history and, like many parts of the country, its own home-grown dance tunes. What has become known in England as “country dancing” became popular during the Elizabethan period amongst the middle and upper classes, who preferred the style to the more formal galliards and pavans of the royal court. This suite is based on three dance tunes that originated in Kent; the first is a sort of moto perpetuo based on two lively 6/8 tunes, “Dover Castle” and “The Fair Maid of Wickham.” The middle movement uses the rather sombre “Blackheath,” contrasting it with the charming and apt “Bromley Bells.” The finale uses the sprightly “We Are All Right at Canterbury and Ramsgate Pier,” using the lilting “Northdown Waltz” as a lyrical contrast.
