Beethoven's fifth and final piano concerto is at the same time the culmination of his efforts in this genre and a reflection of all his artistic skill and expertise. The surviving manuscripts provide a clear insight into his working methods and his intentions regarding the work's performance. The editor, Jonathan Del Mar, has closely scrutinised the autograph solo piano part and reproduced Beethoven's sophisticated performance instructions for the first time in a modern edition. Among other things, this has special repercussions for the left-hand figured bass line of the piano part during the tutti passages. As with the Piano Concertos Nos. 1 to 4, the piano reduction appears with a separate solo part containing all the information needed by the soloist to conduct the ensemble from the piano.- Many wholly new corrections in the solo and orchestral parts- Piano reduction with a separate solo part, as was customary in Beethoven's day- With Beethoven's continuo figures for the first time in a modern edition / Score

For Pianoforte And Orchestra-With numerous corrections.Piano reduction with a separate solo Piano part. The autograph to Beethoven?s Piano Concerto No. 4 is lost. For every new edition which has appeared during the course of time there have been only two authentic sources to draw upon; the copyist?s manuscript of the score with Beethoven?s own corrections and the first edition in parts from 1808 which was published in Vienna and which contains a few revisions dated after the aforementioned manuscript.Though no new sources have been available for this new edition numerous editorial emendations which have prevailed in all previous editions (evenUrtext editions) have now been corrected. Thus this new Bärenreiter Urtext edition presents Beethoven?s famous work in the clarity which it deserves.

If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live...(+)
If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live the fantasy that everything Bach wrote he wrote for the cello. The concerto in D minor (BWV 1043) for two violins string orchestra and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is one of his most loved works. Indeed the slow movement may be one of the most popular and loved pieces in the instrumental literature. Traditionally it is believed to have been written in Köthen where he held the position of 'fürstlischer Kapellmeister' from 1717-1723 a town that saw the birth of the Brandenburg concertos and the solo works for violin and cello. The Dorian church mode (the absent Bflat in the key of Dminor) would also speak for the younger Bach. Recent research however has shown that the orchestral parts carefully written out by Bach himself and found among the papers of his son Carl Philip Emanuel date from around 1730. The sophistication of the composition also speaks for a later date than Köthen. The original score has been lost.Always in need of concert material for his 'Collegium Musicus' in Leipzig Bach made a version of the present concerto for two harpsichords (BWV 1062). The original key was transposed to C minor so that the top note would not exceed a D but remain within the range of a standard harpsichord. Another C minor concerto (BWV 1060) for two harpsi-chords often heard in an arrangement from the 1920's for violin and oboe by Max Schneider and Max Seiffert speaks for two concertos in D minor for two violins by Bach. When arranging an orchestral score for the pianoforte one has to remember that a double-bass sounds an octave lower than notated. This is a welcomed fact when dealing with two instruments that play the original solo parts an octave down. At the same time for a transcription of this kind the ambition must be to avoid the cello soloists playing in octaves with the violin tutti parts - which is what would happen were they to share the same material. This ambition made a piano reduction

Sextet Based On The Piano
Concerto: Piano &

arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet-Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra...(+)
arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet-Concerto for Pianoforte and Orchestra No.4 Op.58: arranged for Pianoforte and String Quintet.Piano Violin (2) Viola (2) Violoncello. This anonymous sextet arrangement of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto was highly popular in Vienna during the composer’s lifetime. We know this from at least two sets of handwritten parts which were then in circulation. No Piano part has been handed down; indeed the original sets of parts probably omitted the Piano. The soloist presumably studied his part from the first edition of the solo part published with the original performance material in 1808. (The full score did not appear until 1861).The sextetversion deftly integrates the original wind parts into the string texture. The arrangement stands in the tradition of Piano reductions with chamber music accompaniment of the sort which were also made for Mozart’s Piano concertos K.413 to 415 and later for the Chopin concertos. This Urtext edition edited by the renowned Beethoven scholar Jonathan Del Mar presents this arrangement for the first time in print. The musical text is supplemented by an informative Introduction and a Critical Commentary.First ever publication of this arrangement.Includes a separate solo part as was customary in Beethoven’s day.Provides new possibilities for soloists to perform this work.
