Violin Concerto In G major is considered to be the earliest of Joseph Haydn?s Violin concertos and was apparently written before he was taken into the service of the Esterházy family. It was firstpublished a century after the Austrian composer?s death in 1909 and was little known before. The concerto is lovely and ingratiating to the ear consisting of 3 movements (Allegro moderato Adagio andAllegro) with a total performance time of under 20 minutes. The unmatched intimacy and loveliness of the uniquely beautiful Adagio and the high spirited final movement with its charming Bagpipe imitation will putplayers and audiences alike in the best of moods from the outset. The Orchestra part is reduced to a Pianoaccompaniment and two copies of the Violin score which is identical to that of the Haydn-Gesamtausgabe are enclosed as separate inserts. Karl Kohaut (1726 - 1784) was an Austrian lutenist and composer of Czech descent considered to be one of the last important composers of music for Baroque lute. Although also a violinist active in the Viennese music scene he was most well-known as a lutenist. He composed a total of seven lute concertos during his lifetime including this Concerto in F Major No. 2 (not to be confused with his Concerto in F Major No. 1 which is considered the most popular) in three movements: Allegro moderato Andante molto and Tempo di Minuetto. In this edition Victor Van Puijenbroeck has created a piano reduction of the orchestral score and also has adapted the lute part to be played onguitar. Included are parts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). 'Mr. Mozart Kapellmeister wishes to announce to the most worthy public the appearance in print of three of his recently contrived Piano concertos. These three concertos may be performed not only with a large Orchestra including wind instruments but also a quattro that is with two Violins one Viola and Violoncello. They will be issued early in April of this year (1783).'As this advertisement shows it was Mozart's intention to keep the accompaniment part flexible in his Piano concertos K.413-5 and as we know from a letter Mozart wrote to his father in K.449 as well. In the present arrangement for two Pianos the solo part - as well as the strings - are unchanged and thus identical with the version in the NMA. Mozart?s concertos for Violin and Orchestra belong to that elite group of works determining a Violin players abilities; they are elegant and transparent with demanding passage-work. The Concerto In D Major K.2 271a the ?6th? Mozart Violin concerto has come down to us in two separate sources a French set of parts and score copy as well as a Berlin score. The editorial board of the New Mozart Edition considers this concerto to be of doubtful authenticity. There are however many musicologists who feel that the work has numerous Mozart attributes.This new publication takes both the above mentioned sources into account andincludes the cadenzas from the respective New Mozart Edition volume appendix although these are certainly not from Mozart's pen.- The ?6th?
