Simple and effective; would make a lovely encore 4 page octavo Duration: 3'56 Text: Francis Quarles (1592-1644) Published by: Dunstan House Francis Quarles is the author of the text of this restful prayer which composer Daniel E. Gawthrop has given a warm and simple setting. Effective without being demanding, this would be a good anthem to begin teaching a choir to sing a cappella. Close Now Thine Eyes was selected for the High School and Community Chorus Reading Session at the 1999 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. Perusal copies are available by contacting office@DunstanHouse.com (include the organization name with your request). To order quantities fewer than 8.

Henry Purcell's Close Thine Eyes for Soprano (or Tenor) and Bass soli with Organ (or Harpsichord) and Basso Continuo.
SKU: MN.56-0049
UPC: 688670220524. English.
Arranged for SATB choir, two keyboards, strings, and optional harp, with soprano, tenor (optional) and baritone soloists, this fresh and unorthodox interpretation reflects on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them with poems in English. The “Kyrie” uses Francis Quarles’ “Close now thine eyes and rest secure” as the opposing English text. After the choir begins the requiem text in Latin (“Requiem aeternam” through the “Kyrie eleison,”) the soprano soloist has a 27-measure solo in which the English text appears. Then the solo is repeated over choir accompaniment and the opening Latin text reappears to close the movement. Duration 9:13.
