Arranged in 2011 it was then premiered by the Radio KamerFilharmonie conducted by Michael Schønwandt in Utrecht in February2012. Debussy’s six movement work for piano has been cherished the world over for its whimsical charm and the way in which they are evocative of childhood. Abrahamsen expands on these traits in his orchestration of the six little masterpieces; be it the mystical heaviness of Jimbo’s Lullaby the icy pirouettes in The Snow is Dancing or the buoyant ending: Golliwogg’s Cakewalk

Claude Debussy dedicated Children's Corner to his daughter Chou-Chou when she was three years old. Some of the movements were inspired by her toys. The six lovely pieces in this suite for solo Pianoare an excellent starting point for introducing Grade 5-6 Piano students to impressionism. The pieces are not intended to be played by children; rather they are meant to be evocative of childhood. A typical performance of the fullsuite lasts roughly 15 minutes.

The famous Golliwogg's Cakewalk is the final piece from Debussy's cycle Children's Corner which consists of 6 miniatures for piano, written for his daughter in the years 1906-1908.The style corresponds to that of ragtime, a dance which was in vogue around the turn of the century. In the middle section, he parodies several times the beginning of the opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner with whom Debussy had a rather ambiguous relationship.The present arrangement now allows musicians to play the popular movement in a version for melodic instrument with accompaniment. / Saxophone Alto Et Piano
