“Flutes on holiday by Jacques Castérède was written in 1962 for three or four Flutes. Each Flute part is quite difficult on this quartet and would be for advanced-intermediate / advanced flautists. This piece features four sections, each one expressing a different mood: Flûtes Pastorales is quite calm with some enthusiastic highlights, Flûtes Joyeuses reflects a very joyful part with a small dance in the middle, Flûtes rêveuses sounds timeless and reminiscent of a theme of Castérède?s 'Twelve Studies' and Flûtes Légères has a fast and light melody. Jacques Castérède (1926-2014) is a renowned composer and pianist. He has won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1953 and has composed numerous melodic pieces including ballets, concertos, symphonies, ensemble and chamber music.”.

As the title suggests, ON THE MOVE is a perky Allegro full of charming optimism. Louke wrote this trio for three matching flutes of any size, equally suitable for three C flutes or any combination of matching low flutes. The 5½-minute work is in Fast-Moderato-Fast form, and suitable for students through professionals. Phyllis Louke composed ON THE MOVE to premiere herself, along with Sharon Byer and Paige Long on three contrabass flutes, at the 2020 International Low Flutes Festival in Tokyo.ON THE MOVE is a trio for three flutes of any matching size; it also works well with a larger ensemble, using multiple players on each part. It was composed for my dear friends Sharyn Byer, Paige Long, and me to premiere (on 3 contrabasses!) at the 2nd International Low Flutes Festival in Tokyo, originally scheduled for March 2020.Since the three of us and our husbands love to travel together, we usually find ourselves on the move traveling and making music together at least once a year.ON THE MOVE is written in ABA form with a short coda. The opening (and closing) sections are energetic and rhythmic with some syncopation, while the center section is a little slower and more expressive with lyrical melodies and flowing lines.

Written for master flutist Robert Dick, Pan Penseroso includes a number of procedures explored in his pioneering book The Other Flute: A Performance Manual of Contemporary Techniques. Originally written for one flute, Bresnick created a two-flute version in order to make the piece accessible to a greater variety of players. This work is presented in three movements, each of which takes their titles from John Milton's poem Il Penseroso (The Contemplative Man). The music aligns itself with this response to the poets earlier L'Allegro (The Cheerful Man). Orchestra version available on rental. Duration: 24'.Pan Penseroso (2009) is a concerto for flute or two flutes and orchestra or piano inthree movements:1. The Noise of Folly2. Prophetic Strain3. More is Meant (Than Meets the Ear)Pan Penseroso and the titles of its three movements are taken from John Milton’s great poemIl Penseroso (The Contemplative Man). The music aligns itself with this response to the poet’searlier L’Allegro (the Cheerful Man). In my concerto the flutist Pan, like the mature Milton, casts a reflective musical eye on the world, renouncing all “vain deluding joyes,” so as tobetter hear the “Sweet Bird that shunn’st the noise of folly…”Written for the master flutist Robert Dick, Pan Penseroso includes a number of proceduresexplored in.

This facsimile of an original by Jean-Joseph Mouret is part of our French classical music collection. Edition : Paris, l'Auteur, Boivin, Leclerc, 1737. Preface: Early music department of the C. N. S. M. D. de Paris (class of Irene Ginger and Jean Saint-Arroman): links between danse and music - choreographic proposals for certain dances - Mouret's ornamentation - Proposed ornamentation for the repeats of a saraband. Three separate instrumental parts: premier dessus, second dessus, continuo (instrumentation ad libitum , violins, flutes or oboes). These works are written as trio and may be performed by two dessus (violins, flutes or oboes) and basso continuo. They may also be played with a chamber orchestra formation. As the dance suites of theatrical works are artificial, 18 th century suites, written specially for dance, are rare. Collection supervised by the musicologist Jean Saint-Arroman, professor at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse of Paris and at the CEFEDEM Ile de France (Training Centre for Music Teachers). He is the author of the majority of our prefaces and has also been involved in library searches. Facsimile of a copy in the National Library of Paris (France). Anne Fuzeau Classique propose period copies of classical music scores.

Martin Amlin’s new tour de force is a quintet composed for Leone Buyse. It is a study in textures and canonic gestures scored for 5 C Flutes, each doubling Piccolo. As with his rhythmic writing, Amlin’s movement titles are engagingly cryptic yet meaningful: 1. Apparatus, 2. Mirémi, 3. Spiral Canon. Ideal for advanced and professional flutists, the work’s intricacies create an exhilarating ten minutes.THREE INVENTIONS was premiered at Boston University on April 14, 2019 by flutists/piccoloists Matthew Lee, Jessie Wang, Courtney Regester, Pauline Jung, and Alyssa Primeau. The piece is dedicated to the composer’s longtime friend Leone Buyse.Apparatus is a little musical machine whose engine is driven by the interval of a perfect fifth. Fifths combine with each other in increasingly larger intervals in a repetitive pattern that appears at higher pitch levels with each iteration.Mirémi is constructed loosely on an ostinato consisting of the notes D and E. The two notes are passed back and forth among the instruments, combining with symmetrical patterns of faster notes.Spiral Canon is a continuous canon throughout among the five instruments. It not only spirals upward in register, but is also constantly “modulating,” spiraling twice through the entire circle of fifths.— Martin Amlin.

Gary Schocker’s THREE DANCES FOR TWO FLUTES has long been a staple of the flute repertoire – in its original voicing with piano, as well as in transcriptions with string orchestra or band accompaniment, for alto saxophone duo with piano, and even in the composer’s flute quartet version of the famous Coffee Nerves movement. Schocker has arranged THREE DANCES for one solo flute with piano, incorporating all of the original work’s counterpoint, beauty, and spice, into this practical and concise instrumentation.
