Cello Meets Piano

Two volumes entitled Cello Meets Piano edited and published by Árpád Pejtsik were issued many years ago by the Könemann Music Budapest. The first edition was quickly sold out and no further editions followed. EMB has undertaken to issue a new edition entitled Cello & Piano with the content unchanged. The two volumes contain a selection from 200 years of music. Eight Baroque sonatas are included apart from the famous D minor one by Corelli there are some that are appearing in a modern edition for the first time in 300 years. In addition to cyclical works (Haydn: Sonatina Mozart: Divertimento Vivaldi: Concerto)and sets of variations (Beethoven Tartini) there are many shorter pieces as well not only the famous minuets by Boccherini Mozart and Beethoven but also works published for the first time here. This volume presents some of the most beloved repertoire for the Christmas season. Some works are well known, others will sound fresh and new to most players. The pieces may be performed as a solo for each instrument (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola or Cello) with piano accompaniment, or as duets or trios, as well as full orchestra. If performed with full orchestra, the piano accompaniment is not necessary. The string ensemble series meets all standards for ASTA (American String Teachers Association) and Suzuki Association of the Americas, Inc. If performed with full orchestra, no solo parts should be played except the 1st violin part. Note also, if you wish to perform these works with full orchestra and you are short certain instruments, you still have some flexibility with the score. For example, if there are not enough violas for balance, the viola (harmony part) and 3rd violin part are identical. Solo and Emsemble Violin 1 and 2-Many selections in this volume are unique and until now have been inaccessible to the string ensemble repertoire. These pieces are intended for multiple strings for performance in the classroom as well as performance in concerts.Several players may be used on each part. Whenever possible every effort was made to keep the viola and violoncello/double bass parts melodic rather than simply filling in the various harmonic chord progressions. Uses: Good Friday Holy Week Scripture: Matthew 12:48 - John 19:26 A very singular perspective is presented in the text of this emotional anthem for Good Friday. The tears of Mary are used to not only express a mother's pain and loss but the deep sorrow of us all as we consider the cost of grace. The main theme in minor moves with the restraint of a heavy burden as the harmonies provide a deep sense of grief and mourning.
