For this experimental film Nyman had the idea of building his music for the marriage masque scene experimentally layering Voices by different sorts of singers to build texture. He arranged the work for brass quintet almostimmediately in 1991.Nyman is a contemporary British composer of richly layered modular minimalist pieces often incorporating period instruments or instrumentation outside the normal Orchestral offerings. He is particularly wellknown for his film scores including The Piano The Cook The Thief His Wife and Her Lover Prospero’s Books and The Claim among many others. His work is widely performed and recorded.

Music for Brass No. 13-Sonata from Die Bänkelsängerlieder is a piece for Brass Quintet: two Trumpets a Horn a Trombone and a bass Trombone. The general level of this Sonata is intermediate / upper intermediate for all instruments. Found among some music sheets bought in the auction of the effects of one Dr. Gehring this sonata is the nineteenth piece was considered as one of the best musical sheets found. The title “Die Bänkelsängerlieder” means “The bench singer” to be understood as the itinerant musician who is singing about the stories he witnesses every day.
