Planet Soup is about the way music grows on earth. It's about the complex intermingling and recreation of musical cultures as they travel around the world, carried by soldiers and slaves; tourists and bootleggers; airwaves and concerts, and by the millions of musical conversations going on everyday around the world as musicians, always hungry for new sounds, interact and re-invent their art. It's an organic, beautiful growth of staggering proportion. It's Planet Soup. Slow cooked to perfection. Three hours of compelling global music created by over 200 musicians in over 35 countries.

The short two-part composition refers to two persons by the name of Teresa. One of them was a beautiful Polish actress, the other the favourite model of the painter Balthus. I tried to fuse the characteristics of both female persons with each other in the merging parts. The three-line D produced by rubbing a wine glass sounds like a faraway, almost inaudible planet tone that ends with a brief sigh. Wilfried Hiller.

In 2014, Chanticleer commissioned me to make a new arrangement of the Hungarian-Romani folk song Jarba, Mare Jarba for their 2014 touring program. Passed down orally through the Romani communities, this beautiful folk song, with text in a language called Beas (beh-osh), speaks of a deep longing to visit one's homeland, a place where the singer can never return. Chanticleer consists of twelve men whose vocal ranges span from low bass to high soprano, equivalent to the range of a mixed choir of women and men. I composed slow sections of original material to represent the singers' longing to return home; these are interspersed with the folk song's traditional fast sections. The incorporated shouts and calls in the score are typically found in the performance of Central European folk songs. I hope you enjoy singing this new version of Jarba, Mare Jarba that contains all of the vigor and excitement of the Chanticleer version. PERFORMANCE NOTES All spoken sounds (indicated by x noteheads) should be performed by individuals. Feel free to elaborate with more sounds of your own in the tradition of Eastern European folk music. If the piece is memorized, feel free to experiment with clapping on the off-beats of m. 93 to the end. Jupiter Hymn is a beautiful, easy-to-play arrangement from the wonderful fourth movement of the seven-part orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity. Holst took inspiration for this suite?one of his best-known works?from the astrological aspect of the planets rather than their astronomical or physical characteristics. Holst wrote The Planets at the beginning of the 20th century, at a time when certain features of the work, such as exotic time signatures (5/4), dissonances and unusual instrumentation were uncommon.Jupiter Hymn is een mooie, eenvoudig speelbare bewerking van het schitterende vierde deel uit de zevendelige orkestsuite The Planets van Gustav Holst: ??Jupiter - The Bringer of Jollity??. A beautiful extract from Garrop's major oratorio Terra Nostra, set to the poem by Walt Whitman. Terra Nostra considers, through texts and poems, the world as it was, humanity's rise and impact on the Earth, and a cautious hope for a reawakening of our bond with this planet. The Whitman poem celebrates our love for an earlier, more natural Earth - the Earth as it should be.

This composition is a peace song, and its message is very simple. I wanted to create something for this planet where we could live in a peaceful mind. Our terra should be beautiful with mindful people and thoughts. Play withyour kind feelings to reach the ears of the listeners.Keep the tone of each phrase legato. Some of these phrases are rather long. If the players need to take a breath, the melodies should still be stable with espressivo playing.

Filled with excitement and unpredictability, this work takes listeners on a journey through the inner workings of the planet. From musical depictions of seismic activity (characterized by swells in the brass and percussion) to the sounds of an earthquake, the piece reflects not only destruction, but also the resulting beautiful landscapes, mountains, and oceans. A powerful work!

A “green” anthem for our times, this lilting, winsome, and infectious original beautifully expresses the ever-growing desire to preserve and protect our cherished planet. A joy to sing, the catchy, Pied Piper-like motif, “I will tread lightly,” both beguiles and inspires the listener with its heartfelt and jubilantly optimistic message of environmental stewardship. Appropriate for schools, churches, or communities wanting to celebrate conscientious living.

Puccini's Nessun Dorma, from his final opera Turandot is arguably the most recognized song on the planet. It is a short 3-minute aria of extreme beauty and drama made famous by the great tenor, Luciano Pavarotti.Wes Ballenger has beautifully arranged this work for solo Trombone with a 4-part Trombone Choir accompaniment & optional Timpani. The solo part is for an advanced performer, however the accompaniment can be handled by intermediate performers.
