Perhaps Bach actually did allow himself to be swept away by Telemann's enthusiasm for the Flute traversiere, the Baroque transverse flute, for which he wrote a whole series of pieces, including the Trio Sonata in G major BWV 1039. With the Urtext edition of the sonata, which presumably is the arrangement of a lost first version for two violins and basso continuo, Breitkopf adds the finishing touches to the series of Bach's Complete Flute Works edited by the renowned flutist Barthold Kuijken. In the publication's textual segments, Kuijken takes a comprehensive look at the various sources and versions. Also very useful for performance practice are the unique characteristics found among musicians who are particularly knowledgeable in early music.The continuo has been realized by Ewald Demeyere, taking contemporary treatises into account.A clear, informative and utterly practical edition of this much loved and important trio sonata. Eugen d'Albert (1864-1932) enjoyed an illustrious and colourful career as both concert pianist and composer. He wished to include J.S. Bach's music in his concerts and sought the grandeur of some of the large secular organ works. The transcriptions he made for this purpose are arguably better than the numerous Bach transcriptions made by his contemporaries. D'Albert's versions of eight secular masterworks present them remarkably close to their original form, yet perfectly matched to the modern piano. At times, they make very considerable technical demands, but the effort to master them is amply rewarded.This 116-page volume marks their first appearance since they were first issued over a century ago. This publication is a completely revised edition of our five-volume guitar tutor. In the decades since its first edition, the musical interests of students and their practice possibilities have changed. To adapt to this, we have partly expanded and partly reduced the musical and technical material of the tutor. We have increased the number of recital pieces at all levels of difficulty,so that students can spend longer on a varied repertoire at their respective level. We have determined the works in the volume V which demand a more developed technique and musicality to extend the repertoire of those who wish to study further. The transcription of lute works has sometimes made significant compromises necessary. However, in our view, it is a significant gain that students can get to know a Dowland fantasy or an early English Baroque set of variations. This volume comprises 44 concert pieces from the early 17th to the 20th centuries, 18 advanced-level studies by Carcassi, Coste, Giuliani, and Sor, as well as several advanced-level technical exercises. Besides original works by Giuliani, Sor, Tarrega, and others, it features several transcriptions of works by Dowland, Rameau, J. S. Bach, and D. Scarlatti.
