A unique collection of elegant transcriptions of Bach’s keyboard and instrumental gems scored for 10 woodwinds, with flexible scoring and ossia parts – ideal for schools and “pull-out†groups on wind ensemble concerts. The music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is a gift. Nearly every piece that poured out of this man is as inspired and perfected as the next. His body of work has cut a deep incision in the recorded history of music and set a benchmark to which all the contrapuntal masters who followed have aspired to meet. The transcriptions found within this volume add to the thousands upon thousands of versions of his music already re-worked for different groups and media. The music here does not, however, embellish Bach’s own scores (save but for a couple of instances in which it was felt necessary to add an inner voice to serve the expansive range of the ten woodwinds). The selections are ordered (loosely) to assume a smooth, inclined trajectory of both difficulty and musical breadth. The first piece is a small and simpleminuet, the last is a long interior movement of one of the most beloved and advanced violin concertos in the whole repertoire. As a keyboard player I grew up learning and falling in love with much of Bach’s music at the piano. For this very reason, much of this volume consists of the composer’s keyboard works. One cannot, however, deny many of the most cherished works from Bach’s oeuvre when compiling a set of transcriptions, and many of those “hits†are included here as well.Departing from a traditional harmoniemusik ensemble, I have replaced the horns here with saxophones. There are two reasons: 1) the nature of much of this music requires instruments with an ease of agility not executable so readily on the horn; and 2) the opportunity for saxophone players to be included in such an ensemble was very attractive, pedagogically.I hope you enjoy these gems from such a great genius.

The volume of trios for advanced players mainly offers a selection from works of the most prominent and most popular composers (Bach, Händel, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven). Of special interest are extracts of Beethoven's variations composed on the famous theme of Mozart's Don Giovanni, Fughetta by Robert Schumann and Dream by the less well-known composer Benjamin Godard. The volumes in this new series contain duos, trios and quartets, their degree of difficulty ranging from easy through intermediate to advanced. Every piece is a transcription or an arrangement, since in editing the volumes our primary concern was toprovide a collection of valuable and interesting compositions, as freely variable as possible as regards instrumentation, for music school students and also for adults who make music for their own pleasure. The range and pitch of the parts enable theworks to be performed on any required or possible combination of the given instruments. The volume of trios for advanced players mainly offers a selection from works of the most prominent and most popular composers (Bach, Händel, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven). Roughly half of this selection of transcriptions of Baroque vocal and instrumental works consists of well-known pieces by the greatest composers of the period (Purcell: Dido and Aeneas, Rameau: Piéces de clavecin, Händel: Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks, J.S. Bach: B major partita, C major orchestral suite), but works by composers less well known nowadays (for example, G. Böhm and J. C. F. Fischer) are also included, together with unusual items such as Polish, German and Hungarian dances from 17th- and18th-century Hungarian manuscripts: the Kájoni and Vietórisz codexes, and Eleonóra Lányi's music book. This volume, previously available in the Leggiero series, is now, in a new guise, part of the series Treasury for String Ensembles. Treasury for String Ensembles provides carefully selected original compositions and arrangements from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, compiled in volumes according to level of difficulty, from beginner's level to professional. Elementary (all in first position): typically for three violins and cello or children's string orchestra. Intermediate: typically for three violins and cello or string quartet or youth string orchestra. Advanced: typically for string quartet or string quintet (with double bass) or string orchestra. The volumes are published in both printed and digital form. The printed edition contains the score and one copy of each part. Further copies can be ordered for the purposes of orchestral performance. The digital edition can be viewed on screen, and the parts can also be downloaded as A4-sized PDF files. The digital edition comes free with the printed edition, using the unique code provided.

The volumes in the Leggierissimo series, each containing works by a different composer, are now followed by albums presenting easily playable music from the various historical periods: renaissance, baroque, Viennese classicism and romanticism. The selection of renaissance music includes not only instrumental dances but also transcriptions of what were originally vocal pieces (well-known chansons). The volume also contains dance movements that can be paired together, and for individual performances cycles of several movements can be assembled from pieces taken from the same collection.

Although many outstanding composers have written for the saxophone, its comparatively late invention leaves a great void in its literature - namely that of pre-20th Century music. If the saxophonist wishes to perform this music, he must turn to transcriptions, and that is what we find in this volume. Selected and edited by Larry Teal, always with the qualities and limitations of the instrument in mind, these pieces for Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment, range in era and style from Haydn to Granados. Selected for the ABRSM Alto and Baritone examinations grades 6 and 7.

Following the Renaissance volume, this time it is Baroque works (more precisely, transcriptions of Baroque vocal and instrumental works) that are presented in the Leggierissimo series, extending the repertoire of junior string orchestras. Roughly half of the selection consists of well-known pieces by the greatest composers of the period (Purcell: Dido and Aeneas, Rameau: Pi ces de clavecin, Händel: Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks, J.S.
