Agitato: This is a movement with a clear romantic intention, as well as passionate. It is like a projection of different colors in an atmosphere of lightness. In this case I probably had Mendelssohn in the back of my mind. Everything in it is extroverted. Vigor and gentleness alternate until reaching the end, where I make a clear allusion to the music of Bach. The movement ends in a fast arpeggio.Capriccio: This part has a humorous touch to it. An evidently burlesque subject matter matches the various rhythmic and harmonic combinations. I do not wish to conceal a similarity of style with the music of Prokofiev. As a reminder, my Sonatina for violin solo comes from an idea taken from this Russian master's Sonata, also for violin solo. The mood is marcato and sharp, alternating expressive moments with others of a mysterious nature. To end up with, a fast and lively coda.Ricordo: It has a burlesque introduction, but this serves as a preamble to the expressive nature of the whole. There are several emotional atmospheres in which harmony plays an essential part. Les mélodies chantent naturellement à travers ses pièces.En écoutant « à une Smyrniote » comme dans les autres pièces se révèle un orientalisme assez peu oriental pour nous aujourd'hui. A l'origine, l'orientalisme est un mouvement artistique, ce qui signifie qu'il ne peut être fidèlement lié à la reproduction de la réalité.Dans cette pièce, la mélodie est liée sans nul doute à la basse harmonique très mise en valeur par des accentuations rythmiques qui constituent une assise solide. Des reprises de passages musicaux dans l'enchaînement de l'œuvre révèlent des atmosphères complètement différentes, suggérant au pianiste un nouveau fil conducteur dans l'interprétation.

The theme of this work is the history of the town of Grafenrheinfeld (Bavaria, Germany) in the twentieth century, a town that is now mainly associated with its nuclear plant. The German word for this is Kraftwerk, which can be divided into the words Kraft (power) and Werk (work). In this composition, it is a metaphor for the ?work? that can be realised through ?power? in a negative way (war) and in a positive way (reconstruction). Musically speaking, power also plays an important role in this work, as opposed to vulnerability, the sense of loss and the insecurity about the lost identity. Based on the text of Lied der Franke ?Kraftwerk? is a powerfully descriptive work thatwill add energy to any concert. De geschiedenis van Grafenrheinfeld (Beieren, Duitsland) in de twintigste eeuw vormt het thema van dit werk. Deze plaats wordt nu voornamelijk geassocieerd met zijn kerncentrale. Het Duitse woord hiervoor is Kraftwerk, datje kunt onderverdelen in de woorden Kraft (kracht) en Werk (werk). La Sonata modello The Template Sonata for solo piano by Howard J. Buss is dedicated to pianist James Helton. The music traverses a wide rage of moods and sonic atmospheres. The composer designed a template of meter changes derived from the numerical series in mathematics codified by the medieval Italian mathematician, Leonardo Fibonacci. In this adaptation of the Fibonacci sequence each number represents a quarter note and is expressed in the succession of meters 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, 4/4, 4/4, 5/4, 3/4, 5/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, and 5/4. This series of measures is repeated throughout the work. While each 13-bar segment implies that the music fits into a particular metrical scheme, the composer exerts independence in a variety of ways, such as with phrasing that sometimes ignores the underlying structure. Buss states: This metrical template was at times useful, but often seemed arbitrary and counter to the thrust and development of the musical material. My challenge was to find a way to work with the template while using its rigidity to spark creative solutions. Although the music evolves within the template, my ultimate goal was that the listener be unaware of the structural underpinnings and simply enjoy the beauty of the music..

In Claude Debussy’s time, music listened to the voice of nature, and imagination found its primary rights again. This importance of wind was the inspiration for Maxime Aulio’s work Whispering Wind with its suspended atmospheres, vaporous lines and luminous colours. The wind caresses the canvas. Les chemins du vent sont ceux qui ne sont pas tracés d’avance ; ils nous racontent mille histoires venues d’ailleurs. Les murmures du vent sont les sentiers diaphanes de l’ me, les couleurs de l’éphémère, la poésie des sons. Avec Claude Debussy, la musique écoutait les voix de la nature et l'imagination retrouvait auprès d'elleses droits primitifs. Chaque instrument semblait fait d’impressions et de suggestions. La partition cessait d'être développement pour devenir enveloppement. C’est cette sensibilité toute française que Debussy contribua façonner, que nous retrouvons dans Whispering Wind (“Les Murmures du Vent”) de Maxime Aulio. Des climats en suspens, des traits vaporeux, des couleurs lumineuses. Le vent caresse la toile, suggère, évoque seulement, mais avec une éblouissante précision. Le vent est une parole nomade qui voyage dans notre intérieur très longtemps. “Non ascoltate i suggerimenti degli altri, ma ascoltate le lezioni del vento che passa raccontando la storia del mondo.” Claude Debussy Le strade del vento sono quelle che non sono tracciate in precedenza, ci raccontato mille storie di altri luoghi. I mormorii del vento sono i sentieri diafani dell’anima, i colori dell’effimero, la poesia dei suoni. Con Claude Debussy, la musica ascoltava le voci della natura. Ritroviamo questa sensibilit tutta francese che Debussy contribuì a formare in Whispering Wind (Il mormorio del vento), brano del giovane compositore francese Maxime Aulio. Tratti vaporosi, colori luminosi, il vento che accarezza, suggerisce, evoca con sorprendenteprecisione. Il vento è una parola nomade che viaggia a lungo nel nostro interiore.

A trip to India inspired Gauthier Dupertuis to write Dystopia for double wind quintet, a composition commissioned to him by the Swiss conductor Felix Hauswirth, on the occasion of the aVENTura Festival in Lucerne in September 2023 dedicated to Swiss composers. In October 2018 Gauthier Dupertuis had the opportunity of accompanying the Wind Orchestra La Landwehr de Fribourg, (Switzerland), asan instrumentalist during a concert tour around India. Travel between the different cities was punctuated by the horns of the different vehicles on the road, which appeared to be in competition with each other in terms of their creativity. Their bus was no exception to this rule, and the composer ended up letting himself be inspired by this five-note pattern which, through repetition, ended up anchoring itself deeply in his brain, until it served as a musical basis for this work. Dystopia exploits the notion of duality: in two parts (I. Preludio and II. Toccata), the work uses the double wind quintet sometimes as a single entity and sometimes as two or three groups in constant rhythmic, harmonic, or writing contrast. Like in a dystopia, where the hero constantly struggles against an oppressive society, the thematic group linked to motif A (that of the car horns, set out at the beginning of the Prelude) confronts that linked to motif B (exposed at bar 25) throughout the piece. Similarly, the free form of the Prelude contrasts with the more defined structure of the Toccata where the atmospheres linked to the two thematic groupsalternate. Two short episodes highlight a third motif, more arioso, serving as divertissement and rhythmic appeasement within the Toccata.
