Tchaikovsky wrote his Children's Album in the summer of 1878. Following the example of Schumann's Album für die Jugend the 24 miniatures are not only technically easy to play but also directly related to the children's world and thus ideally suited for music lessons. Based on the original text of the Tchaikovsky Complete Edition this edition contains notes on fingering and interpretation which take Piano education suitable for children into account.

Since then the resultant collection of 43 pieces has enjoyed unparalleled success. Schumann’s Album For The Young is now presented in an Urtext edition which meets the needs of performers. In addition to the famous ‘Advice to Young Musicians’ (in German English and a French translation by Liszt) other pieces related to this work but left unpublished during Schumann’s lifetime can be found in the appendix. Easy Pieces for Descant Recorder and Basso continuo (Piano)-With 'Concerto' the experienced recorder teacher Gudrun Heyens presents a selection of recorder pieces which allow for the study of performance literature as early as from the second year of study.
