Adagio for Viola and Piano

Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967) composed Adagio for violin and piano in 1905 and dedicated it to the outstanding violinist Imre Waldbauer. In 1910 Kodály made versions of the work for both viola and cello, while Norbert Duka transcribed it for double bass. In 2014 we published all four versions of Adagio in a new separate edition. / Alto Et Piano

Shostakovich's last work the Sonata For Viola And Piano Op.147 is a superbly crafted Sonata in three movements with unusually a slow Adagio movement for the third. It was dedicated to the violist Fyodor Druzhinin a professor of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and a member of the Beethoven String Quartet a renowned Moscow ensemble that played at the premieres of most of Shostakovich’s string quartets. Fyodor Druzhinin and Mikhail Muntyan premiered the Viola Sonata in Leningrad on October 1 1975.The solo Viola part is also included on a separate insert.

Lionel Tertis a donné la première représentation de sa transcription de l'Irlande Sonate pour violon n o 2 en 1918, avec le compositeur au piano, et il est resté l'un des piliers de ses programmes de récital pour le reste de sa carrière. Minatures de Huw Watkin pour alto et piano ont été écrites pour l'altiste Simon Rowland-Jones et la première fois au Festival de musique North Norfolk en 2009. Il y a huit mouvements courts. ' Le premier a l'alto jouant des fragments de courts, parfois angulaires, parfois lyriques au-dessus des harmonies simples, lent au piano. La quatrième et les septième mouvements sont des variations sur le premier. Entre les deux sont très contrastés miniatures : numéro deux est rapide et passionné, tandis que nombre trois sont lente et contemplative. Satz der Sonate op. 11 Die zweibändige Ausgabe unter dem Titel ?Miriam's Song' (Das Lied der Mirjam) ist jüdischen Komponistinnen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts gewidmet. Sie beinhaltet Viola-Bearbeitungen der Werke von Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn, Vally Weigl, Lena Stein-Schneider und Ruth Schonthal (Band 1). Das von Schonthal aufgenommene Allegro moderato ist eine Originalkomposition für Viola und Klavier. Im 2. Band begegnen wir den Komponistinnen Helene Liebmann und Sarah Feigin. Der Titel der Ausgabe bezieht sich auf die Rolle der Prophetin Mirjam, der älteren Schwester von Mose und Aaron. Beim Auszug des israelischen Volkes aus Ägypten führte sie nach der Durchquerung des Schilfmeeres den Freudentanz und Gesang der Frauen an (2. Buch Mose 15,20-21). Bezeichnenderweise hat der Berliner Maler Wilhelm Hensel im 19. Jahrhundert seine Frau, die Komponistin Fanny Hensel geb.
