This Christmas carol is part of the Kilmore Carols. The
“Kilmore Carols”, also called the “Wexford
Carols”, actually consist of two collections and the
famous “Enniscorthy Carol” (Wexford Carol). The
earlier collection, consisting of 11 songs, two of
which are still sung in Kilmore today, was written by
Bishop Luke Waddinge and was published in 1684. Father
William Devereux's later collection also contains 11
songs published in 1728. Both collections were composed
to Irish folk tunes...(+)
