This 14-minute Tone poem was commissioned by a sailor
who sailed across the Atlantic in a small boat. The
piece illustrates various facets of the journey and
includes references to boat horns, dolphins, and
finally culminates in the storms which beset the crew.
It would need a comprehensive instrument to make it
work and although a stand-alone piece, a description in
concerts of the story behind it would immensely help
the listener's enjoyment of it.
