Lovely to play and lovely to listen to. 7 little pieces with the typical Borodin sound - think of the famous string quartet; this has the same feel. Difficulty ranges from about grade 4 to grade 6, but most of the pieces are at the easier end of that bracket, and because the rhythms & harmonies feel natural (at least to the western European mind), I found this music incredibly easy to sight-read. The last 2 pieces are particularly nice; a serenade with a charming melody that sticks in your head and makes you want it to go for several pages more, and a pretty lullaby (though Borodin -or his publisher- called it a nocturne). Nice to finish the evening on. Those who are terrified of flats will find a couple of the pieces challenging, but I encourage you to give it a shot (get it into your head that flats are not actually any trickier than naturals - didn't you learn "Chopsticks" before you even began to read music?) One of the pieces has got some impossible stretches, but you can either break the chord up or just leave the top note out- it sounds fine.
