@Philip L. Thanks for the comment; I should have explained in the description. This piece started out on one idea, and quickly changed after the first 5 or so measures. I decided not to scrap the beginning for no apparent reason. Since I didn't get rid of it, I decided to reference it later. Then I introduce a miniature fugue. Why? I'm not sure. Then there's that syncopation section. For the most part, I just wanted a more interesting transition back to the melody of measure 6 (or whatever it is in the beginning).
