 Norvège, RognanNorwegian composer Fred Jonny Berg Berg's music is often described as melodious, accessible and dramatic, but yet original and innovative. Berg creates music for a broad gamut of instrumentations, from solo to orchestral works. His production counts some 200 titles. including works for e.g. piano, flute, violin, viola, cello, contrabass and orchestral works like piano concertos and symphonic poems. In 2008, a recording of five works by Fred Jonny Berg took place in London.
The Philharmonia Orchestra was conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy and Berg.
Soloists were flutist Emily Beynon from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and her sister Catherine Beynon on harp. In 2006, Berg's Flute Mystery op.66a for alto flute, harp and string orchestra was dedicated to - and first performed - by Sir James Galway and National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Leonard Slatkin.
Berg is also a movie director and executive producer, working closely with the company Symbiophonic, which publishes his sheet music and productions worldwide. As coordinator and producer, Berg has worked with a number of releases, both within music and film. Berg lives in Saltdal, a valley north of the Arctic Circle.

Flute Concerto No.1 Op.70 was composed in 2007, and is dedicated to Emily Beynon, solo flutist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam. First performed in London on the 7th of February 2009 by Emily Beynon and the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.
The composer’s calls for silence are strongly present here. One example of this can be found in the fourth movement, Awakening, where the instrumentation includes Glass Harmonica - a unique instrument with a special sound and tradition. Using a traditional orchestra setup, the composer has made a 4-movement concerto based on episodes in his life. Thereby hangs a tale. Perhaps the concerto reflects a fictive moment of death?
