Every breath every pulse beat is under Hiscontrol. We are called to never forget what a gift life is. This is a majestic song of praise!

Over the years, the need for a new edition of Mahler's Symphony #2 became apparent for several reasons. First, many new sources for this work have become accessible since 1970, when Erwin Ratz completed the first critical edition of this symphony, the most significant being Mahler's personal reference score in which he recorded changes to be made (his last entries were made in September 1910). The second reason was the significant strengthening of the editorial standards of the critical edition in recent years. The music is now computer-generated. Previously, changes to the score could be made only by retouching the film of old engravings. Computerizationalso ensures a concurrence between the score and performance materials. Editorially, the new edition benefits from expanded texts that describe and assess the source materials, document and explain the editors' decisions and provide detailed information on the work's origin, the history of the published scores, performance practices, etc. Over the past five years, Renare Stark-Voit and Gilbert Kaplan, editors of the new edition of Symphony #2, have identified, evaluated and analyzed every significant source, and as a result of their work a substantial number of errors have been corrected. James Whitbourn's Beatus Vir for SSATB choir with a Piano accompaniment for rehersal. Commissioned for the Choir of St Matthew’s Church Northampton. First performed on StMatthew’s Day 21 September 2017 conducted by Justin Miller. 'With the wedding season soon to be upon church musicians James Whitbourn’s new five-minute wedding anthem  Set me as a seal upon thineheart deserves a warm welcome. It would be easy to learn quickly if rehearsal time is limited with vocal lines that are not demanding and helpfully supported by the organ. But the music itself has a haunting intense beauty thatis very special. Judge for yourself with the performance on YouTube that appears to have been made at the wedding for which it was written. St Matthew Northampton for which Walter Hussey commissioned so notably continues an enterprising music commissioning policy most recently with Whitbourn’s setting of Beatus Vir. The commission was for the feast day of St Matthew last September and the published score describes the text asbeing the Gradual for St Matthew. But that rather limits what is simply the first two verses of Psalm 112 and deserves to be sung throughout much of the church year. Forget Monteverdi and other lively settings of Beatus vir:here we have a contemplation on how blest is the person who trusts in the Lord. Despite a dramatic outburst on ‘potens in terra’ (‘mighty in the land’) the work ends as it began with an extended gentlesetting of the word ‘Beatus’.' - Sunday by Sunday

This simple and tuneful anthem meets two needs with its poetic imagery. An ideal choice for Christ the Shepherd Sunday it can also be quite effective for services where there is a moment to honor our earthly shepherds andministers. A very sweet anthem the tender “That's What a Shepherd Is For” is sure to tug at the heartstrings.
