The fourth volume of the section of the Reger Edition devoted to his organ works comprises, in chronological order, the chorale preludes composed between October 1893 and November 1914 in Wiesbaden, Weiden, Munich, Leipzig, and Meiningen. The composition of chorale preludes accompanied Reger throughout his entire career, even though they were composed primarily in the years from 1900 to 1902 and 1914 (Opus 135a). As almost no other composer at the turn of the century, he dedicated himself to the chorale prelude, composing around 100 works in this genre. Since January 2008, the first scholarly, critical edition of the works of Max Reger (RWA) is being produced at the Max-Reger-Institute, Karlsruhe. Its design as a hybrid edition breaks new ground in the methods of editorial practice. It comprises three areas of Reger's compositional output: Organ works, Lieder and choruses and, for the first time, Max Reger's arrangements of works by other composers. To begin the series, the first seven volumes have been published and contain the organ works, which have been eagerly awaited by many.

The volume contains selected transcriptions from well-known sets that Bartók wrote for children and young people: For Children, Children's and Female Choruses, 44 Duos and Mikrokosmos. Some are based on folk melodies and some on original themes. The volume consists of 16 pieces. In nine, the bottom part is set for alto flute. The collections serve to draw music students into the realm of a great genius of 20th-century music, while concurrently introducing them to the basic techniques of playing chamber music.

Brahm s was one of the great masters of Romantic choral music: not only did he sense how to create a good sound with the human voice, but through the choirs he himself conducted he gained great experience and skill in vocal composition. Alongside large-scale choral works for large forces he also composed a capella pieces to poems by contemporary poets (Rückert and Goethe, for instance), and to the words of German folk songs. Six of these works were selected and translated into Hungarian by Dr. Károly Vargha (1914-1993), who also translated the German texts of several great composers such as Bach, Haydn, and Händel. These six works for mixed choir are published here in twobooks, edited by Lajos Bárdos.

On warm summer nights, I listen to crickets sing their love songs to God... Penned by American poet Robert Bode, these thoughtful words and the poem from which they are taken inform the title for this book. Bode has long been a sought-after poet, providing deeply moving words for choral and solo music, many of which are included here. This collection of Bode’s lyric poetry displays the poet’s affection for the things of this world, both physical and emotional. “Songs” of morning, evening, nature, love, music, inspiration, and humor lift up and inspire thought. Most notably, the section focused on songs of justice, war, and healing offers many important messages for this time. Robert Bode is the Artistic Director of Choral Arts Northwest, a semi-professional chamber chorus in Seattle. In 2010, Bode and Choral Arts NW received the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, presented by Chorus America. His poems are performed by choirs and soloists worldwide.

The oratorio Passions by Homilius were among the last compositions of their kind in the 18th century. In an oratorio Passion the chorus is restricted mainly to singing the chorales and the interjections of the crowd; only the conclusion of a Passion provides an opportunity for an extensive choral movement. In the St. John Passion the final chorus emphasizes the supreme importance of the Crucifixion as the climax of St. John's Gospel. The free elements of the composition take the forms customary at the time: da capo arias are predominant. Score available separately - see item CA.3710300.
