In December, 2014, my nine-year-old granddaughter, Charlotte, showed me 'Winter Snow,' a poem

that she had written as a school assignment. I was taken by the text: by its imagery, rhythm, and

assonance. Charlotte gave me permission to set her words to music. I hope this piece does

justice to her beautiful poem. -Robert Applebaum

 

This "winter painting" begins with unison chorus and ends with two-part chorus. The voices are supported by a gentle piano accompaniment, mostly in eighth note motion, decorated with occasional mordents.
