One of Erkki Melartin's best-known piano compositions is the five-movement suite Der Traurige Garten (The Melancholy Garden) dedicated to Sibelius. It combines Romantic and drawing-room touches with Impressionistic elements. This set includes the three first pieces: 1. Wir zwei (Me kaksi), 2. Liebesallee (Lemmentie) and 3. Wiegenlied eines Bettlerkindes (Kerjalaislapsen kehtolaulu). The first piece Wir zwei (We Two) has a certain archaic Sibelius sound.
