Two American Scenes is a composition in two contrasting movements, adding the variety of two styles to your concert program within one piece! The first movement, "Stars on the Prairie," is a simple lullaby, and the second, "Fiddler's Frolic," is a lively barn dance. Young string players can get acquainted with traditional American music styles right away! Duration: 3:12.
Two American Scenes is a composition in two contrasting movements. The first movement “Stars on the Prairie”is a simple lullaby. The second movement is in the style of a barn dance. Each movement is self-contained. The director may choose to perform either movement independent of the other. If the entire piece is performed, the director may choose to perform the two movements with or without a pause in between; thus, mm. 40-41 may be played as the conclusion to “Stars on the Prairie,” or they may be omitted to effect a segue without pause to the second movement, “Fiddler’s Frolic.”The piano part provides a few accidentals not suitable for beginning string students. Thank you for choosing this composition. Your comments are most welcome.—Joseph Compello,Glen Arm, Maryland, 2010.
