DANIEL DORFFDaniel Dorff ’s music has been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Wolfgang Sawallisch,commissioned five times by the Philadelphia Orchestra’s education department, and commissioned twiceby the Minnesota Orchestra’s Kinder Konzert series which has programmed his music over 200 times.Dorff ’s works have also been performed by clarinetists Larry Combs and John Bruce Yeh, the BaltimoreSymphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Detroit Symphony, andEastman Wind Ensemble; chamber concerts of the Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, and OregonSymphony; on the 1998 Chicago Symphony Radiothon, by flutists Jean-Pierre Rampal, Donald Peck, MimiStillman, and Gary Schocker, by pianist Marc-André Hamelin, and at the Spoleto and Aspen summerfestivals.Other commissions have come from the Colorado Symphony’s Up Close and Musical series, SacramentoSymphony, Young Audiences, Ithaca College School of Music, Symphony in C, Network for New Music,National Flute Association Piccolo Committee, Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, and other organizations.Dorff has also created arrangements for Sir James Galway and for pop musicians Keith Emerson and LisaLoeb.Daniel Dorff was born in New Rochelle, NY in 1956; acclaim came early with First Prize in the AspenMusic Festival’s annual composers’ competition at age 18. Dorff received degrees in composition fromCornell University and University of Pennsylvania, serving as a Teaching Fellow at Penn. His teachersincluded George Crumb, George Rochberg, Karel Husa, Henry Brant, Ralph Shapey, Elie Siegmeister, andRichard Wernick; he studied saxophone with Sigurd Rascher.
