It’s dedicated to a wonderful friend and spiritual sister who showed tremendous courage and grace in the face of the devastating effects of cancer. The piece opens “with question”, moving through unexpected chords and harmonic colors representing the challenges and uncertainty each day brings when literally fighting for your life. But while those questions aren’t always answered, we move to the piece's second half, “with assurance.” Ms. Carol’s faith gave her the assurance of the home that awaited her, providing a peace that passes understanding. She was an encouragement and inspiration to all who knew her and this piece is just a small and humble effort to remind all of us what it means to be “almost home.”.
