This is a transcription for clarinet choir of Coleridge-Taylor's Clarinet Quintet in F# minor. Originally written for Solo clarinet and violins 1 & 2, Viola, and Cello, this arrangement is for Bb Solo Clarinets 1 and 2 (Solo Clarinet 1 has an alternate part for A Clarinet), Bb Clarinet 3, Basset Horn (includes alternate parts for Bb Clarinet 4 or Alto Clarinet),and Bass Clarinets 1 and 2. English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's father was a doctor from Sierra Leone who returned to his home country when he was not permitted to practice medicine in England. Samuel remained in England with his mother, and later sudied with Charles Villiers Stanford. He is sometimes been called the "Black Mahler."
