However, they are very well suited for a performer that needs to freshen up HisHer solo repertoire with a couple of very melodic yet interesting pieces.
Ballad:
As the name suggests, this piece has a sweet and slighlty romantic taste. The melodic and harmonic structure is very simple letting the player-student concentrate on the movements. Specific attention must be paid with muscular relaxation and fluidity of the movements. The student must not be afraid of the basic rhythmic figure in the piece. Irregular figures are becoming more and more common in modern and contemporary music, so it is useful to start to familiarize with them. Dynamics here are to be intended as a suggestion, meaning that the player can change them and "write" down HisHer own dynamics. This will help the student to develop a personal interpretation of the piece.
Danza:
A completely different character from the first piece, Danza is to be played with groove, thinking the left hand ostinato as a bass player playing a bass line over the piece. The melody is very "cantabile", but offers the chance to improve indipendence:
- the right hand is the melody singer
- the left hand is the bass player that accompanies the singer.
For beginner level students: the piece could also be played by two players on the same marimba like a duet, the first student playing the bass, the second one playing the melody.
