Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by John Cross. Romantic Period. 44 pages. John Cross #23105. Published by John Cross (A0.1003186).

Brahms' Ballades were originally composed for piano, but here, set for brass ensemble. The richness of Brahms makes for a perfect match with a large brass sound. The third Ballade is like a storm. The opening section is raucous yet gloomy and this contrasted by a beautiful chorale in the middle, playing the role of the "eye". The final section brings back the storm, but the dynamic is much softer, as though the worst has past. Instrumentation is: 3 trumpets, 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba.
