Published by Carter Datz (A0.1415908)."The Door" weaves a story of someone who feels stuck - they'd like to make a change in their life but it's easier to stay inside their comfort zone, far away from the "fear monster" that guards the door. Eventually they decide to stand and go through the door, but they find themselves unable to vanquish the fear monster. They realize that the only way through is by accepting their fear! The moral of the story is that true courage isn't the absence of fear - it's being scared out of your mind and making the tough decision anyway. I wrote this piece in collaboration with the Wentzville Liberty Chamber Choir - the students came up with the idea for the piece and contributed lyric and musical ideas. They wanted a "roller coaster" of a piece, and I did my best to deliver.
