Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1375434).“Tone Poem No. 2 (Stars of the Desert Sky)” is the closing track of Keith’s 2016 album entitled Space and Time and the second in a series of close to ten pieces he's written under the title of “tone poem”. An interesting feature of “Stars of the Desert Sky” is that it incorporates an altered tuning of the 5th string (down to G) and the 3rd string (down to F#). This “open” tuning gives the piece a droning effect and is relatively easy to play. The title refers to Keith’s late brother Ken’s many photos of the landscape of the desert southwest and the particular beauty of the night sky far from city lights. While the recorded version of this piece features additional instruments including percussion, the music also works well as a guitar solo. This PDF includes detailed fingerings in standard notation.
