Mit seinen El Roi-Impressionen für gemischten Chor (SSAATTBB) a cappella gewann Günter Berger 2014 den Kompositionspreis des 12. Festivals „Zeitgenössische Geistliche Musik der Stadt Schwäbisch Gmünd. Der hebräische Begriff „El Roi im Titel des rund 12-minütigen Chorwerks bedeutet „Gott des Schauens. Inhaltlich geht es um die Vision des alttestamentlichen Propheten Jesaja (Kap. 11). Im Verlauf des Stücks wird der überzeitliche Jesaja-Text um Aphorismen des zeitgenössischen deutschen Lyrikers Reinhard Rakow erweitert. Klänge, Cluster, stimmliche Effekte, aleatorische Elemente, humorvolle Tonmalereien von Wolfsgehäul und blökenden Schafen, Fußstampfen sowie die Verwendung jüdischer und arabisch-persischer Modi bzw. von Zitaten aus der Gregorianik verleihen diesem bis zu achtstimmigen Werk einen einzigartigen Ausdrucksreichtum.
