"Skye Boat Song" is a traditional Scottish folk song that tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's escape to the Isle of Skye after the defeat of the Jacobite uprising in 1746. The song is sung from the perspective of a young woman who helps the prince flee to safety on a small boat, disguised as a servant. The melody is hauntingly beautiful and has been adapted for many different genres, including classical music and pop. The song has become an emblem of Scottish heritage and is often performed at events such as weddings and ceilidhs.
