Opus/Catalog Number: ICG 213, No. 7, Movement 5
Key/Tone: C Major
Movements/Sections: Moderato
Year/Date of Composition: 1877
Difficulty: Grade 3/12 (Easy)
Obs.: This piece is the fifth and last movement in Gounod's Messe brève no. 7 Aux chapelles. It was originally published in 1877 in a version for two equal voices with organ. In 1890, Gounod rearranged it for soli, four-part mixed choir and organ and added the words Aux chapelles to the title.
This piece opens with solo male voices singing a simple yet very lyrical melody. Then the four-part choir enters, repeating and expanding this melody upwards to its summit, after which a descending cascade leads back downwards to the main melody. The Agnus Dei then ends with the pleas for peace uttered in pianissimo chords. This arrangement is for SATB choir with organ accompaniment
Included: Full score and separated parts for each voice/instrument.
