King Arthur Vocal Score

Camelot the 1960 musical by Lerner and Loewe is based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from T. H. White's  novel 'The Once and Future King'. The main conflict of the novel and the play is the affair between Arthur's wife Guenevere and his friend Sir Lancelot.

Purcell's King Arthur was based on a poem written by Sir John Dryden. In commercial terms it was Purcell's most successful work. This edition has been edited and adapted by Colin Graham and realised by Philip Ledger.

'Iolanthe' premiered on November 25 1882 simultaneously at the Savoy Theater in London and the Standard Theater New York. The wit of Gilbert's dialogue and sparkle of his lyrics is matched only by the energy of Sullivan's setting imbued with his sense of both Mendelssohnian grace and Victorian popular song. In two acts 'Iolanthe' presents the convergence of the world of Fairies with that of Humans when Strephon interacts with members of Parliament. It focuses on contemporary issues by drawing comparisons between the worlds - both Peers and Peris (the Fairy Kingdom) live 'on credit' and are indebted to others for their existence since Peris owe their life onEarth to ancient myths while Peers are in a position of financial privilege because of ancient laws. or The Slave of Duty-In Gilbert And Sullivan's 'The Pirates of Penzance' our hero is Frederick a young man apprenticed to a pirate king because of a misunderstanding - his nanny misheard his parent's request to apprentice him to a pilot. On the verge of turning his back on the ill-adjusted swashbuckling lifestyle and crew Frederick finds himself torn between his love for Mable his desire to eliminate the scourge of piracy and his sense of duty - the subtitle for the show is 'The Slave of Duty'. Of course the final twist is another identity confusion - just when all seems lost the pirates are bound over to surrender - because they're all orphaned noblemen. They regain their places in the House ofLords. This Vocal score contains all the dialogue and historical notes by Marie Eggold; it is edited by Bryceson Treharne.
