Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard. The Promise Which Was Made Unto The Fathers is an anthem for Easter. First published in 1903 it is scored for SATB Choir with Organ accompaniment. It takes its text from passages of the Book of Acts The Song of Solomon and Psalm 145.Edward Bairstow (1874-1946) was a British composer organist and conductor. He studied under Frederick Bridge at Westminster Abbey and later became Organist at York Minster and Professor of Music at the University of Durham. He is best remembered for his settings of the Anglican liturgy as well as anthems such as Blessed City Heavenly Salem and Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.

This verse anthem with organ was probably Handel's first contribution to English church music and possibly his first setting of an extended English language text. As pants the Hart is undated and there is no historical record of the anthem's first performance though evidence from the appearance of the autograph itself suggests it proceeded the Te Deum and an estimated composition date is from November-December 1712.Arranged for soprano alto tenor and bass soloists SATB chorus and organ. Par BRITTEN BENJAMIN. The lesser known of Britten's settings of Psalm 100. Jubilate Deo was intended as a companion piece to the Te Deum In C , and is an exuberant, joyful song. This School of Organ Playing presupposes a certain technical facility on the piano. The pedal exercises at the beginning are rudimentary and should be practiced in all keys, gradually accelerating the tempo. The studies are graded according to their polyphony, beginning with simple two part exercises, followed by those in three and more parts. This acquaintance with the strict principles of polyphonic music, and the introduction to effective part writing, with a knowledge of harmonic form and architectonic values, provide the essential background for the correct performance of polyphonic music, especialle the fugue. The most important musical forms have been used to illustrate the various possibilites of registration and its relationship to style (colourful, individualistic and smooth playing). The studies are so arranged that earlier technical points, etc. are constantly reviewed, through comparison of style and form, in order to fix, or refreshen, the ideas in the student's mind. It is very important that the evolution of organ music from vocal music should be made clear to the student the very beginning, both musically and intellectually. He will be shown the technical evolution of organ music during the centuries and thus prepared for an artistic execution and interpretation of old and new words, especially for the incomparable art of our great Johann Sebastian Bach.

These devout texts and psalms are well-known and have be staple ingredients of the choral repertoire for many years. The importance of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562?1621) to the clavier music of the baroque era can hardly be overestimated. For double SATB and Piano/Organ.This energetic and rhythmic setting of the Jubilate was commissioned for the 2010 Gloucester Three Choirs Festival. While the musical language is tonal the harmony is often coloured by 4ths recalling the harmonic language of the same composer’s well-known Torches and O Lord the Maker of al thing. The setting is perfectly suited to big choral events but is not the kind of piece that most choirs will be able to manage on their own since it includes divisions within the two four-part choirs and there is a demanding treble solo in the middle of the piece. The accompaniment requires a highly accomplished player and is better suited to thepiano than to the organ.
