This is billed as 'an opera for children of all ages'. It is best suited to being performed by adults or teenagers to younger children as the vocal parts are quite challenging yet the story taken from a Grimm fairy tale is simple and childlike. Limited vocal and instrumental forces are employed making it ideal for amateur dramatic groups on a tight budget!The story is that the Princess of a small kingdom leaves home to be married to the Prince of the next kingdom taking with her an attendant (the Waiting-Woman) a magic cloth with three wishes and Falada the talking horse. On the road the attendant steals the magic cloth and wishes herself Princess; when theyarrive at the Kingdom she is betrothed to the Prince - much against his will as she is old and complaining - while the Princess is put to work as a goose-girl and Falada's head is cut off. Still able to speak he and the Princess complain of their fate and are overheard by the good King who steals the cloth back from the Waiting-Woman and marries the Prince and Princess happily to each other. The last wishes are used to bring the Princess's mother to the wedding and to put Falada back together then cookies are passed to the cast and audience.This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score and is in English only.

Music-theatre works-The poems which form the basis of this work were inspired by a miniature mechanical organ playing eight tunes once the property of George III. A scrap of paper sold with it explains that 'This Organ was George the Third for Birds to sing'.Peter Maxwell Davies then set these poems to music and devised them as a semi-theatrical work for Male Vocalist Piano Violin Cello Flute Clarinet and Percussion. The songs are to be understood as the King's monologue while listening to his birds perform and incorporate some sentences actually spoken by George III. The resulting work Eight Songs for a Mad King was completed in 1969 and stands as one of the mostdistinctive and arguably one of the most disturbing musical works from the twentieth century.This is the vocal score which includes a Piano accompaniment.

(HWV 73) is based on the version used for the work?s first performances in March of 1734. Three appendices retrace the complex history of the work significantly different versions of which were used for revival performances in 1737 1740 and 1741. Included are abandoned and modified parts of the score as well as a documentation of changes made to the characters.Handel composed ?Parnasso in festa? for the wedding of Anne Princess Royal and Prince William of Orange which took place on March 14 1734 in London. As Handel?s contribution to the publicfestivities the serenata was performed the evening before the nuptials at King?s Theatre in the Haymarket. The bridal couple attended the performance.While the Italian text of the serenata was newly set most likely by Giacomo Rossi most of the music was drawn from pieces of Handel?s earlier works among them ?Athalia? from ?Radamisto? (HWV 12a) ?Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno? (HWV 46a) and ?Delirio amoroso? (HWV 99). Newly composed parts are limited to eight vocal pieces the sinfonia at the beginning of part 3 and the beginning of the overture. The available source material reflects the history of the work: There is no autograph composition score while the conducting score reflects a collaboration between Handel and his main copyist John Christopher Smith senior.
