Rehe arsals should be structured in a way that trusts that human beings are truly the miracle workers and that if we work on being human, the magic of this thing called “moral acoustic” will resonate in a powerful, honest, and compelling way. For at the very end of the day, our goal in harnessing the energy contained in a moral acoustic is to create the most honest and direct communicative voice possible—a voice that can change lives and enrich our humanness just by hearing it, feeling it, and being touched by its ‘moral acoustic.’ —James Jordan, from Chapter 4 This volume is a continuation of the journey James Jordan began in his now iconic book The Musician’s Soul. In The Moral Acoustic of Sound, Jordan explores and defines those factors that create a “moral acoustic”—those human resonances among and between musicians. This book delves into the nature of authenticity and honesty in choral sound and how conductors and teachers, through these new understandings, can draw forth that which is living within each ensemble of musicians no matter their age or experience. Using the power of metaphor, this book attempts to provide answers to unlock the magic and mysteries in music making and human expression. “Sha ke It Up With Shakespeare” is part of the “Rise and Shine Series”. This musical for 2-part voices will provide your students with a fun and unforgettable introduction to English literature's most famous writer, William Shakespeare. Shakespeare not only wrote a wide range of plays and sonnets that touch upon all aspects of the “human condition,” he also created words and phrases that are still very much a part of our everyday language. Through the use of an easily memorized rhyming script and a healthy sprinkling of his most famous quotes, this musical serves as the basis for an overview of five well-known Shakespearean plays. The opening song is followed by five musical selections that highlight the essence of the plays featured: two comedies, two tragedies and one history. Along with his ability to expose the darker aspects of human nature, Shakespeare also demonstrated a gift for highlighting the humorous side of everyday life. The six original songs written for this musical are more reflective of the latter perspective of his works. The Enhanced Teacher Edition includes piano/vocal arrangements, rhyming program script as well as choreography, prop, staging and performance suggestions. The enclosed CD-ROM offers reproducible singer and speaking parts. A performance/accompaniment CD is available separately or in a kit with the enhanced Teacher edition. Suggested for Grades 2-5. Performance Time: 20 minutes.

The scale training exercise complete book, supervised by Yoshiko Kurokawa. This is a revolutionary collection of all-key scale exercises designed to help both aspiring and practicing pianists practice essential scales efficiently. The major and minor (harmonic and melodic minor) scales in the 12 keys are an important part of the practice for learning tonality and training the muscles and joints of the hand. The human hand is flexible, and the thumb and other fingers bend in different directions, making it easy to turn and play a wide range of notes. However, it is important to learn scales from an early age because the correct playing style is required, such as knowing how to turn the fingers when playing speed is faster, the position of the black keys and white keys, and how to use the wrist. To play scales smoothly with all five fingers (one hand), the turn of the first finger is significant. It is advisable to practice scales from an early age to improve the turns. The fingering of the scale changes depending on the key. It takes a lot of time to learn them because fingering is different for the right hand and the left hand as well. Also, although the scale is written in two-fourths time, if you are not used to it, you may end up playing one octave at a time. Various exercises are described in this book to help you solve these problems. It takes a lot of time to play scales well by nature, but that is why it is important to practice efficiently.

Commenting on this cycle of 35 songs, the composer writes: The contradictions in human nature delighted him; he loved the unevenness of life and all its manifestations. While nineteenth Century musical settings focused almost exclusively on his atmospheric and lyrical poetry, it was not until the twentieth Century that adequate musical expression could be found for Heine's poetic realism, unique in its time. In this selection I have attempted to juxtapose the various personae and forms used by Heine so as to present a picture of his personality..
