'C'est la quatrième collaboration enregistrées entre les guitaristes acoustiques John Renbourn et Stefan Grossman, a enregistré en 1987 et produit par Jones de Led Zeppelin John Paul. Country Blues Guitar styles span a wide horizon. In these three lessons the ideas and techniques of Rev. Gary Davis, Charley Jordan, Tommy Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt are presented. The arrangements vary from alternating bass to a Delta strum to a monotonic bass. Davis's Cocaine Blues and You Got The Pocket Book, I Got The Key both played in the key of C and in what Rev. Davis called 'old fashion' pickin'. The popular blues Crow Jane played in the key of E. Arrangements In Vestapol Tuning-'The Open D Tuning (D A D F# A D) also referred to as the Vestapol tuning is a powerful and evocative tuning that was widely used by guitarists in the 1920s to play country blues ballads rags and folk tunes. In this lesson I focus on arranging five of my favorite blues melodies in Vestapol plus an original instrumental.The religious tune When I Lay My Burden Down was in the repertoire of both Black and White traditional guitarists. I have arranged it in an Elizabeth Cotten/Mississippi John Hurt style. The beautiful blues Goin' To Germany was recorded by the Cannon's Jug Stompers in the 1920s. I have always wanted to find the right setting for this melodic countryblues and the Vestapol tuning gave me the feel and textures that I was looking for. Sam McGee played guitar behind Uncle Dave Macon when he recorded I've Got The Morning Blues in Vestapol. This is a fun tune to play and leads nicely in to Hesitation Blues a song recorded by many artists. My arrangement tries to combine a sliding jug sound with some funky blues licks. Peg Leg Howell's Skin Game Blues is a rare example of an early blues song with three distinct sections. Peg Leg played this with a bottleneck but for our arrangement we will rely on our fingers to make the notes sing out.We finish the lesson with Innocence Abroard. An original instrumental that ties together the right and left hand techniques we have studied.A detailed tab/music booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD. Each tune is taught phrase by phrase and played slowly on a split-screen. Bonus audio tracks of the original 1920s recordings are included. Gregory Stone has transcribed these three selected preludes for one piano-four hands.For much of his life George Gershwin sought to integrate the worlds of jazz and classical music. These pieces are not jazz improvisations but they do show something of the style of his own playing. Gershwin had intended to compose a set of twelve, a sort of jazz Wohltemperierte Clavier, but his unexpected death from a brain tumour at the age of 38 prevented this. At least seven survive (others may have ended up as songs), and this set of three, as published, form a satisfying unit.The first opens with a blue-note riff which forms the basis of the first theme. Contrasting material follows, making use of a distinctive repeated note figure, then the first idea reappears in a quasi-orchestral climax. The second prelude shows a curious kinship with Chopin's A minor Prelude, with its eerie accompaniment and hypnotic melody. The third exploits a similar major/minor ambivalence, but dextrous syncopation gives it driving rhythmic energy. / Piano 4 Mains

George Gershwin's three most famous preludes demonstrate his genius for piano writing, and portray a variety of styles. Prelude I exudes energetic syncopation, Prelude II is a lyric blues with an ostinato-like accompaniment, and Prelude III closes this set brilliantly with rugged rhythms and exciting syncopations. All three preludes were selected for the Federation Festivals 2011-2013.

Arranged for Clarinet and Piano-Taking inspiration from Jascha Heifetz masterful transcription of George Gershiwns wonderfully original Three Preludes Charles Neidich has created a work that functions as a real duet between the clarinet and piano. Rather than simplytranspose the Heifetz violin part Neidich adapted the work to fit the clarinet taking what works well and changing other parts often returning to Gershwins original to fit the character of the clarinet. The transcription includes an A clarinetpart in E minor for those who find the 2nd Preludes original key of D# minor daunting.

Although three Preludes were published in 1927 Ira Gershwin confirmed that there were indeed some unpublished pieces intented as Preludes.
