Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1302822 By Domenico Zipoli. By Domenico Zipoli. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Baroque. 9 pages. Derek Hasted #892427. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1302822). TWO LITTLE ZIPOLI FUGUES - accessible GUITAR DUETSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric GuitarDerek Hasted writes Many guitarists will know Zipoli’s “Little Fugueâ€, though maybe not his Fughetta in Em.In this edition I have changed the key of both fugues to land on the “sweet spot†of the guitar’s neck, and to allow players to segue neatly from the Fughetta (in Am with a Tierce de Picardie ending in A major) to the Little Fugue (in A major). The music is laid out so that players can stay with the same part on both pieces, or swap seamlessly to the other part with no loss of continuity and no page turns.Guitar 1 is intermediate, Guitar 2 is easier - ideal for a student/teacher duo or (by swapping parts between pieces) a lovely performance item for a well-matched duo. There is a little left hand fingering, but no dynamics - please feel free to add your own dynamics and articulation to make the performance “yoursâ€.I hope you enjoy playing these charming little miniatures! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

Flute Trio,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Piccolo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1101274 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Hannah Haefele. Baroque. 16 pages. Hannah Haefele #704661. Published by Hannah Haefele (A0.1101274). I'm slowly working my way through J.S. Bach set of Preludes and Fugues, and the third set is great. I decided to arrange it for piccolo, C flute, and alto flute. You can use this for sight reading material or to practice your various flutes. Or play it with a couple of friends on a recital! If you don't have or want to play the piccolo, simply read the part on C flute, but play it an octave up.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.984695 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by John M. Honeycutt. Baroque. Score. 6 pages. Music Innovators Workshop #4356271. Published by Music Innovators Workshop (A0.984695). This is a very interesting 4 voice fugue. I like a lot - but I can't play it on this tablature - even though I can play it on traditional notation. I wonder if it's because I learned to play it first on the traditional notation, or if the complexity of the piece makes the tablature less effective than it is on less complex pieces. Actually, i'm fascinated by the way it looks on the tablature. The weaving of the melody lines is very interesting. It really is a visual work of art! 6 Pages. This piece is notated on a vertically oriented tablature called a key map. Key maps are intended to SHOW you (visually) which keys to play by matching (mapping) the locations of the keys on the keyboard. >>> The group of 12 keys from Middle C up to B form what we call the green Octave Group (There are 7 of these identical groups on the piano distinguished by their colors and locations.) The key map staff is based on an octave group of the keyboard. For each key map octave group, the 5 vertical lines of the staff stand for the 5 matching black KEYS. >>> Staff lines ARE SPACED to match the horizontal spacing of the black keys on the keyboard The notes for black keys are placed ON these staff lines. The notes for the white keys are placed BETWEEN the lines. >>> The notes of a key map move to the left and right to indicate change in PITCH and down the page to indicate the passing of TIME (rhythm). The vertical length of each note is proportional to the time (in beats) that the sound requires. If you want to know more about this beautiful key map notation, you might consider reviewing our article describing how this notation works, entitled: Getting Started With Key Maps for the Piano. It contains an explanation of how key maps work and includes a number of examples. 16 pages. It is promotionally priced at only $1.99. (Actually, you can read the fist few pages simply by going to the look inside pages of the article.)

Stephen Davies #896762. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.1307493). In this arrangement of Wilhelm Friedemann Bachs' Fugue in C Minor, the 3 Clarinets are fully employed in every bar, using all their skills to punch through to the dramatic ending! Any listener might even enquire as to how many instruments are actually playing, it's that busy!Old W.F.B. was quite a character, and here he seems to be trying to surpass his Fathers grasp of counterpoint, but in my humble opinion he merely equals it!Good jousting opportunities for 3 accomplished players.Â

Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.828708 Composed by Jan Zach. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Baroque. Score. 5 pages. Guido Menestrina #405395. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828708). Transcription by Guido Menestrina, follow the score on youtube: https://youtu.be/A0riyf_X3P4 Jan Zach, called in German Johann Zach (baptized 13 November 1699 – 24 May 1773) was a Czech composer, violinist and organist. Although he was a gifted and versatile composer capable of writing both in Baroque and Classical idioms, his eccentric personality led to numerous conflicts and lack of steady employment from about 1756 onwards. Zach was born in ÄŒelákovice, Bohemia into a wheelwright's family. In 1724 he moved to Prague and started working as violinist at St Gallus and at St MartÃn. According to Dlabacž, he studied organ under Bohuslav MatÄ›j ÄŒernohorský, who lived in Prague from 1720 to 1727. Zach's career as organist started at St MartÃn, and by 1737 he was also playing the organ at the monastic church of the Merciful Brethren and the Minorite chapel of St Ann. In 1737 he competed for the position of organist at St. Vitus Cathedral, but was not successful. Details of what happened next are unknown: he was reported to have left Bohemia, but apparently remained in Prague at least until 1740. By early 1745 he was living in Augsburg and then on 24 April 1745 he was appointed Kapellmeister of the Electoral orchestra at the court of Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein, Prince-Elector of Mainz. He visited Italy in 1746 and, briefly, Bohemia in 1747.[1] Zach evidently had a complex and eccentric personality, which led to numerous conflicts that plagued his life at Mainz. He was suspended from his position in 1750 and finally dismissed in 1756. From that point on it appears that Zach never again had steady employment. He traveled through Europe and supported himself financially by performing and selling copies of his works, teaching, dedicating his compositions, and so on. He visited numerous courts and monasteries in Germany and Austria, stayed in Italy in 1767 and between 1771and 1772, and may have worked as choirmaster at the Pairis Abbey in Alsace. He stayed several times at the Stams Abbey at Stams, Tyrol, where he may have had connections, and served as music teacher at the Jesuit school in Munich, for several brief periods of time. The last mentions of Zach in contemporary sources indicate that in January 1773 he was at the Wallerstein court, and according to the Frankfurt Kayserliche Reichs-Ober-Post-Amts-Zeitung of 5 June 1773 he died on a journey, at Ellwangen. Zach was buried in the local church of St Wolfgang. Zach's surviving oeuvre comprises a wealth of both instrumental and sacred music: some 30 masses, 28 string sinfonias, a dozen keyboard works and other pieces. Due to the nature of Zach's life it is difficult to establish a precise chronology. His work reflects the transition from the old Baroque style to the emerging Classical music era ideals. Zach was equally adept at strict counterpoint and the style galant, and was also influenced by Czech folk music. Zach was fond of chromatic modulations. Scholar Johann Branberger, writing in the early 20th century, noted Zach's preference for chromatic, and often exotic, themes. Only a few of Zach's pieces were published during his lifetime: a harpsichord sonata (in Oeuvres mêlées, v/6 (Nuremberg, 1759)), a harpsichord concerto (Nuremberg, 1766; GS C13), and the collection Sei sonate for harpsichord and violin or flute (Paris, 1767).

For brass octet (2 Tp. in Bb, 1 Flglhn., in F Horn, 2 Tb, Euph., and Tuba) can also be well-utilized by a brass choir. This is a terrific transcription of a little-down, but powerful piece by J. S. Bach for organ. The mp3 file is a FINALE audio extract (not a great sound, but certainly good enough to get one the scope of the piece). It work just as well taken a bit more slowly.

Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891841). In this arrangement of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Fugue in C Minor, the three Clarinets are fully employed in every measure, using all their skills to punch through to the dramatic ending! Any listener may enquire as to how many instruments are actually playing, its that busy! Old W.F.B was quite a character by all accounts I've read, and here seems to be trying to surpass his Fathers grasp of counterpoint but in my humble opinion he merely equals it!

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.889416 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Luis Anjos Teixeira. Baroque,Concert,Standards. 31 pages. Luis Anjos Teixeira #3485727. Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889416). 2018 Chamber Music Contest EntryAs a violin player this was always one of my beloved pieces and it has accompanied all my Life. The G minor Fuga is the most compact of the three fugues in the volume for violin solo (and note that in this versions they are not in fact fugues in the proper sense of the word, but rather a kind of fugue/Baroque-concerto hybrid form). It was also transcribed for lute by Bach at some later time (BWV 1000). My arrangement is based on a version of this piece for the organ made by Bach himself - BWV 539. I follow very intimately the organ version, not adding or letting out any of the original notes. As an arrangement I transposed it to H-Minor and some of the notes where made through the interpretation symbols more or less shorter in order to accentuate the polyphonic, rhythmic and natural dynamic of the piece. I also added some legatos. Crescendos, or fortes and similar indications are left out like in the original, waiting for your own interpretation. In the musical consciousness of Bach the polyphony and dialog between the voices were a projection of an ideal world for the Human Society and this should be in the first line of focus and in the mind of all the members in the group. The power of this piece comes from within its structure and relays in its polyphonic dimension. Allow yourself to focus on the Art of enhancing the beauty of this dialog, the bless of communicating with each other. Bach is Love - Love each another I really advise all performers to have a very humble and sensitive approach in the interpretation of this piece towards loudness because you will have to be listening to each other very carefully while performing. Linear time, sound and silence are the basic of dynamic expression. Dynamic will than happen naturally and without much effort when bringing the „Art of playing the silence and the Art of the „duration of the notes to a state of consciousness within the whole piece itself. Often in the old music notation the duration of the notes is longer written in the score then it should be played. Understandable because It takes a lot more time for a composer to write in detail the sound and the silence than to write only the raw length of the notes! Back in those times the performing artists were trained very well to read their raw parts and became very skilled in making their own thing out of the scores so the composers did not have to worry with so much detail like nowadays. In some scores we even find words like:-„please play this note simply as written and without embellishments! On the original score of the Fuga a sixth voice joins the group between bars sixty and sixty one and this voice can be heard very well in the sound file. This „Ghost voice is noted on the clarinet part as an extended possibility. To play it with just one clarinet is absolutely possible as well as arbitrary. Do at will some experiments and let than the group decide. In case of doubt play simply the bottom voice or let yourself get inspired with the sound file. One of my suggestions would be also to play the bottom line as long as the other one is silent, than jump to the upper voice as it comes in and go back again to your usual voice while the other voice „takes a break. This work brought me a new insight into the consciousness and the universal nature of Bach`s music. It requires high skilled and experienced artists to execute. The score was written on Finale. The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. Thank you very much f.

Published by Rudy Volkmann (A0.1005603). This is the only known six-voice fugue in music literature; and despite the title, Bach himself thought of it as such, often referring to it as his Prussian Fugue. By the time of Bach, distinctions had nearly disappeared between ricercari and fugues. Most organists, however, stick to the painfully slow tempi of ricercari in performance, and speeding it up a bit in this arrangement makes it much more accessible to players and listeners alike. The FINALE audio extract is a bit misleading, as there is no sound bank for flugelhorns; but you certainly get the drift. It's a bit of a haul; a C trumpet part has been included as a substitute for the Eb trumpet called for in the score. This piece would work well as a brass ensemble chart.

JohannChristoph Pachelbel was a German baroque composer and organist. He was anacclaimed composer and organist during his lifetime, and was also regarded asan outstanding teacher. Today Pachelbel is considered to be one of the mostimportant organ composers of the middle Baroque: he made significantcontributions to the development of chorale prelude and fugue and brought theSouthern German organ tradition to its peak. During hislifetime, Pachelbel was best known as an organ composer. He wrote more than twohundred organ pieces, both liturgical and secular, and used most of the genresthat existed at the time. His other keyboard music includes harpsichord suitesand sets of variations. Pachelbel also composed numerous vocal works: arias,Magnificat settings, motets, sacred concertos, and chamber music. As acomposer, Pachelbel apparently was most interested in variation forms andassociated techniques. Variation techniques are in many of his organ worksespecially heard in the piece presented here, his Canon for which can be hearda full set of techniques. It is the only canon he wrote, yet is one of the mostpopular ones performed today. This quintetarrangement makes a great piece to play for church services, graduations andwedding processionals. It?s stately chordal progressions, chordal tonalitiesand variations have been especially popular with audiences around the world.

Bassoon,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1316530 Composed by Angela Salvaggione. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score and part. 7 pages. Angela Salvaggione #905263. Published by Angela Salvaggione (A0.1316530). This piece is based on a ground, or ostinato. That means it has a repeating pattern, in this case, eight bars. La Folia is a ground that’s been used by many composers over the centuries, including Corelli (Violin Sonata Op. 5, no. 12) and Vivaldi (Trio Sonata, Op. 1 no. 12), and more recently, Rachmaninoff (Variations on a Theme of Corelli) and Manuel Ponce (Variations sur Folia de España et fugue), and more recently still, Glen Shannon’s La Follia Variations for recorder ensemble. Many of these pieces are quite long to listen to, but are written for a variety of instruments and a variety of styles. Perhaps it will inspire you to try and write a variation yourself. You can have your teacher play the ground and you play your variation at the same time to see if you like how it sounds together. Warning! DO NOT start this piece too fast! The opening theme is very easy, but after every eight bars, each variation becomes more difficult as you Level Up through the piece. Keep everything under control, and think of ways you can make each variation sound different – experiment with your dynamics and articulations. Time: ca. 2:15Key: D minorRange: E2-Bb3With large leaps and running scalar sixteenth note passages, this piece is appropriate for a second year student.Once the student has purchased this piece, an adjudicator’s copy may be made. Teachers may purchase individual copies for each student’s use. Studio licensing is not available.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029561 Composed by Peter Daniel Klein. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 13 pages. Peter Daniel Klein #6401141. Published by Peter Daniel Klein (A0.1029561). This musical piece is comprised of two twelve-tone rows, atonal music based on synthetic scales unique to each composition, which are based on medieval plainsong chants whose systemization was begun by Pope Gregory I during the sixth century AD. A simple explanation of this composition is that it is the world's oldest notated music combined with modern 20th-century music theory that eschews traditional melody and harmony for synthetic scales unique to each composition. The music is complex and dissonant, although the conversion of the two plainsong chants to twelve-tone rows retains a semblance of a tonal center at given points throughout. Still, the entire piece of music is that same melody utilized harmonically: just forward, backward, upside-down, backward and upside-down, rhythmically altered, transposed, displaced up or down, or split into smaller cells and then reprocessed in the same way mentioned above. I have also borrowed the Baroque Period techniques of the two-part invention and four-voice fugue combined with serial musical techniques that may offend the average listener's traditional musical sensibilities but make logical structural sense. I used the Dies Irae (The Day of Wrath) and Tuba Mirum (The Last Trumpet Call). The authorship of the chants has been attributed to many saints from Gregory to Thomas of Celano but probably evolved from early Jewish psalmody carried forward by the earliest Jewish converts to Christianity, which further developed into trochaic metered poetry by successive monks. It was set to memorized plainsong heralding back, in part, to Jewish worship. The text of the Dies Irae is very similar to Zephaniah 1:16. The last trumpet call that raises the dead in Christ is comparable to the Apostle Paul's account written in his first epistle to the Corinthians Chapter 15 and first epistle to the Thessalonians Chapter 4. The two epistles may, or may not, be related to the Final of the Seven Trumpets bringing God's Judgement on the earth spoken of in Revelation 11. The relationship of the trumpet mentioned in the epistles to those written about in Revelation divides theologians, but I digress into unrelated matters. Despite the modern theory, the music is still movingly visceral because of its conceptually descriptive nature. It is full of aural symbolism following the Dies Irae and the Tuba Mirum, making it a type of program music ala Hector Berlioz of the Romantic Period. The music is, therefore, genuinely eclectic because it has blended qualities of several musical periods. The final section of the video explains the symbolism. The music difficulty is virtuosic, extremely taxing to play.

Jmsgu3 #3468714. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549231). J. S. Bach BWV 508. Bist du bei mir Bach adapted this aria from a lost Stölzel opera called Diomedes. He changed the original orchestral instrumentation to soprano, strings, and continuo.  He also modified the voice-leading making it sound more like a Bach composition. The work appears as BWV 508 No. 25 in the Anna Magdalena Notebook No. 2.  Source Only a few remnants of the original opera have survived. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. Chances are good, though, that the tune was a favorite of everyone in Leipzig at the time.  Lyrics When thou art near, I go with joyTo death and to my rest.O how joyous would my end be,If your fair hands      Would close my faithful eyes. - Unknown Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.
