Georges Dandelot (1895-1975), who was a pupil of Widor, Roussel and Dukas, achieved posterity only through his educational manuals, which seem to enjoy permanent success. Some may regret the fact that his compositions have fallen into oblivion, but nobody can deny his tremendous talent for musical instruction. When it was published in 1935, the five-volume Etude Du Rythme filled a glaring gap: for the first time, a progressive method - graduated with minute care - set out to inculcate pupils with this 'vital element of all music. Dedicated to the simplest rhythms that are 'the basis of all to follow , the first volume now comes with a valuable addition: an audio version, attached to the score in the form of a download card, enabling budding musicians to monitor for themselves whether they have correctly reproduced the rhythms of the exercises. Of course, this recording can also be used to carry out rhythm dictations - modern-day technology at the service of a timeless method. / Percussions

With this book/audio set you will learn essential jazz rhythms first-hand from world-class professionals ! Reading Key Jazz Rhythms is a collection of 24 easy to medium level jazz etudes, and 24 simplified guide tone versions of the etudes. They are ideal for learning the basic language of jazz, swing phrasing, and articulation. A perfect tool for preparing for the jazz ensemble or for any other ensemble/orchestra which performs jazz related music (pops orchestras, musical, studio, movie scores, concert and marching bands, etc.). Each etude is based on a specific rhythm or a combination of rhythmic figures. Some etudes sound like very lyrical improvised jazz solos, while others are more like a melody to a standard. On the downloadable audio tracks the soloist demonstrates the 24 melodious etudes together with a professional rhythm section. You can also improvise along with the play-along tracks using the chord symbols. The guide tones are the essential or defining notes for each given chord type. So if improvising is new to you and you find yourself getting lost, you can always return to a guide tone and play rhythmically around it. Any etude and its corresponding simplified guide tone version can be played together as a duet (with or without the audio accompaniment) with your teacher or a friend.

Jazz Conception is a new and exciting way for players at all levels to learn the language of jazz! Each book/audio-set features 21 solo etudes based on chord changes to standards and blues. The same 21 etudes transposed and adapted for the main jazz instruments.See and hear how a well known soloist phrases and articulates and play along with or without the soloist on the audio tracks.Play along with one of today's finest, swinging New York rhythm sections: Mike LeDonne on piano, Dennis Irwin on bass, and Kenny Washington on drums.Start out fairly easy, then get progressively more difficult.Use the etudes as a bridge to solos of the masters that are usually more complicated and involved.Learn melodies and lines that will give you a solid jazz vocabulary and musicality.Use the book/audio-set for private lessons, for self-study, or in any combination up to a full jazz ensemble, including flute and clarinet. If you are more advanced you may want to use the book to develop your sight reading abilities, for transcribing the etudes (then check against the book) or for just having fun playing along with a great jazz rhythm section.Use as an improvisation study, learning how to construct a swinging, logical solo - works especially well in combination with the Study Guide. The Jazz Conception Series is also perfectly suited for the class room. It can be used to develop younger students jazz style in a big band or small group. In an improvisation class the teacher can use the etudes as studies in improvisation.
