The source of inspiration for Thailand Impressions was a trip that the composer made to the magnificent country of Thailand. The three movements reflect the many different aspects of this fascinating part of the world including Bangkok - both modern and antique, Buddhist temples and the infamous Burma railway.

Kees Schoonenbeek s’est inspiré d’un voyage en Tha lande pour la composition de ce triptyque. Le premier tableau est consacré Bangkok, ville agitée et mystérieuse où l’ancien et le moderne demeurent côte côte. Le second tableau, plus mystique, dépeint l’insondable mystère et la conception humanitariste des croyances bouddhiques. Le troisième tableau suit la ligne de chemin de fer qui mène vers la frontière du Myanmar via le Col des Trois Pagodes. Des milliers de prisonniers de guerre et de travailleurs forcés périrent dans la construction de cette ligne de fret.

Bliss: Impressions of a Village is a spectacular test piece by one of the most renowned brass band composers in Holland, Jacob de Haan. It contains three impressions of a village in the beautiful Brabant province in the Netherlands. The first movement is in a very classical style, which captures the village's history appropriately. The entire band joins in as the small river approaches an ancient castle. The third movement contains lots of interesting rhythms portraying the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the village.

Balkan Impressions II is a challenging composition for solo clarinet by clarinet virtuoso Miltos Mumulides. Based on Greek and Bulgarian folk music, this piece unites traditional influences with contemporary techniques. Originally studying in Thessaloniki (Greece), Miltos Mumulides received an advanced diploma with high distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium). He has built an impressive career as an orchestral musician, in chamber music and as a soloist. He performs throughout Europe and Asia on a regular basis and is currently an associate professor at the University of Macedonia in the department of Music Sciences and Art.

The Piano music of Jean Sibelius ranks among the greatest of Finnish music, and his 1924 set Five Characteristic Impressions demonstrates his importance, particularly in the field of Tone Poems. This work's four movements were inspired by the four Ariel poems of T.S. Eliot. The poems are entitled Journey of the Magi, A Song for Simeon, Animula, and Marina. Colorful organ registrations, late twentieth-century musical language and references to other organ works and chant melodies are employed in this musical representation of Eliot's poetry. The poems mark, in part, Eliot's conversion experience to orthodox Christianity. The spiritual theme of T.S. Eliot Impressions is that of a journey from darkness to light and from despair to hope. A tour-de-force concert calibre work of some twenty minutes in length. Detailed notes by the composer are included in the publication and are critical to the understanding and appreciation of this extended work.
