This volume presents keyboard works and solos songs by Johannes Brahms arranged for solo clarinet with piano accompaniment. These nine works have been carefully chosen to stay within the abilities of the intermediate levelclarinetist. In most pieces the clarinet part makes only brief exxtensions into the altissimo register emphasizing instead notes in the lower two registers. As with all works of Brahms the accompanying parts (here the piano) areprominent and often are of equal importance with the solo part. For this reason the piano part will require a performer of equal ability to the clarinetist. The music presented here is of high quality and gives the intermediateclarinetist interesting literature to perform for contest or recitals. Includes a separate pull-out solo part.

Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie is one of two concertante works completed premiered and published during his lifetime. He was commissioned to write it in 1909 for the final examination at the Paris Conservatoire in 1910. Debussy orchestrated it in the summer of 1911. While transferring the clarinet part from the already published version for clarinet and piano he made a few subtle changes particularly in m. 201 which has been a bone of contention among clarinettists for over a century. The present scholarly-critical publication is the first Urtext edition of the orchestral version. It draws on every known source and takes into account a previously ignored source that shedsnew light on the piece.First Urtext edition of the orchestral versionFirst scholarly-critical edition of a pioneering work for clarinetTrilingual Foreword (Eng/Fr/Ger) with Critical Commentary (Eng)

Trio (Op. 10) was composed c.1940 and first published in 1943. It is scored for Clarinet Cello and Piano. One of Frankel’s earliest works it is light and pleasing showing how the composer was first influenced by jazz and classical chamber music before he later turned to larger symphonic works and started experimenting with serialism. Benjamin Frankel (1906-1973) was a British composer and musician. He is best remembered for writing over one hundred film and television scores including The Man In The White Suit and The Battle Of The Bulge but he also wrote eight symphonies and many smaller works such as his ViolinSonata and Concerto which were written for Max Rostal.

The Sonatina Folkloristica for Clarinet Solo explores both native music forms Tarantella and Cantilena and the ‘atomisation of the beat’ in the untimed beginning of the Cantilena. This short three-movement work is demanding with playful moments.Charles Camilleri was one of the very few Maltese composers to gain international recognition. He was largely self-taught and was fascinated with the traditional music of his own country. Years spend in Australia and London led him to a successful career in light music and he later created a celebrated music programme for the Canadian Broadcasting System. Later in life he studied music of Africa and Asia and developed a systemhe termed ‘atomisation of the beat’ to accommodate the shifting rhythms and accents of more folkloric music.

Ever since Mozart encountered the Clarinet in Mannheim in 1778 he loved the instrument?s warm and expressive tone. His friendship with Anton Stadler the clarinetist in the Royal-Imperial Court Orchestra in Vienna prompted him to compose not only the Clarinet Concerto (K. 622) but also this ?Quintet of Quintets? which was written two years before his death. Like almost all his works for the Clarinet this Quintet wasprobably intended originally for the Basset Clarinet. However it survives only in two posthumous prints both of which call for a standard Clarinet. These prints form the basis of our edition. As an added bonus the appendixcontains a fragmentary Allegro in Bb major for the same combination of instruments.

Performed by Keith Dwyer clarinetAccompaniment : Cassini String Quartet: Charles Roth 1st violin; Marla Smith 2nd violin; John Madison viola; John Iatzko violoncelloWritten for his friend and fellow Mason inVienna Anton Stadler the quintet was completed in September of 1789 and premiered a few days before Christmas of that year. It is one of Mozart's most perfect accomplishments ? a score of proud serenity transparenttexture and radiant beauty. It is also an example of Mozart's uncanny ability to combine the best parts of chamber music and concerto music. The solo clarinet leads the ensemble but does not subjugate it. There is an infinitevariety of interplay between the performing partners and all five instruments undertake the virtuoso's role at one time or another. 'The result ' says Homer Ulrich 'is a piece of music whose charm and delicacy are difficult toduplicate in the literature of strings and winds.' This deluxe 2-CD set includes the quintet in its original key with printed parts for both A and B-flat clarinets and adds a repitched version for B-flat clarinetists allowingplayers of that instrument easier execution plus the ability to learn the same fingerings as the composer's intended A clarinet for performance purposes.Includes a high-quality printed music score for B-flat clarinet; anda compact disc containing a complete version with soloist in split-channel stereo (soloist on the right channel); then a second version in full stereo of the accompaniment minus the soloist. Also includes a second compact disccontaining a recording of the quintet repitched to allow B-flat clarinetists to play the original written part for A-clarinet.
