Method-Practical Method For The Violin is a series of 5 method books for beginner Violin students. Book One focuses on open strings and easy tones on each string with preliminary exercises and pieces. Some exercises are written as duets with the second part scored for the Violin teacher allowing the student to develop their ensemble playing and gain confidence. Christian Heinrich Hohmann (1811-1861) was a Frankish composer and pedagogue. Despite writing many pieces for Piano and Organ he is best remembered today for his educational Violin works.

Brahms's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Op.77 begins unusually with a gentle Allegro ma non troppo in 3/4 time which becomes more virtuosic as it progresses. This is followed by a whimsical Adagio which begins with wind solos. The final movement opens with the soloist playing a fast fanfare-like theme in thirds with minimal accompaniment. Arcangelo Corelli was famous as a virtuoso on the Violin and is regarded by many as the founder of modern Violin technique; he systematized the art of proper bowing and was able to extract a singing beauty and lyricism that was previously unheard of. He was one of the first to use double stops and chords and these qualities attracted international fame both for his own performances and for his many students who began to disseminate his techniques and on the Violin. Corelli’s Twelve Sonatas Op. 5 is a work of the highest order and acts like a compendium of Violin technique circa. 1700. This first volume contains Sonatas 1-6 all of which have been editedfaithfully by Gustav Jensen.

Violin Sonata was commissioned by the Carnegie Hall in New York as part of its centennial celebrations in 1991 and first performed on 3rd February of that year by Michelle Makarski and Brent McMunn. It is arelatively diffident three movement work exploring heavy tortuous sentiments without becoming overpowering. The Piano part sets up a series of repeating ostinati with some interesting jazz influences and chord progressions which the Violin part cleverly plays against. Anthony Davis (b. 1951) is an American composer and pianist. His recordings and compositions cover both jazz and modern classical styles but he is best known for hismodern political operas such as X based on the life of Malcolm X.

The Violin part in the Piano score of this work is printed exactly as it was in the first edition. The separate Violin part is the present editor's version. A colourful and exciting addition to any advanced Violinists repertoire!

Violin/Piano reduction of this work for Violin and Orchestra composed in 1874. The Spanish quality of the work is homage to Pablo De Sarasate who premiered the work in 1875.
