The Russian Piano Method is testament to a highly developed methodology for teaching piano in Russia, which encourages the student in a lively yet purposeful manner and has gained great recognition in international piano pedagogy. The approach of the two-volume standard work, edited by Julia Suslin, is deliberately based on training student?s perception of sound and is aided by focusing on listening practice, alongside the technical aspects of playing piano. In this way, the student acquires knowledge of the most important elements of piano playing in a short period of time. The two-volume method can be mastered in about two to three years. The Russian Piano Method is now also available as edition with two CDs recorded by Kassel-based pianist Annette Töpel, which support the practical learning of the music. für Violoncello und Orchester-Schnittke?s first cello concerto was written during a near fatal time in his life after having suffered a severe stroke in 1985 during which his heart stopped three times. Upon recovery he completed the concerto the music becoming more dissonant and discordant with the melodies more contorted.The first cello concerto was a monumental endeavor for large orchestra and approximately 40 minutes in duration. The work was written for Schnittke?s close friend Russian cellist Natalia Gutman. The solo part is most feverish and virtuosic exhausting the performer both technically and emotionally. The last fourth movement creates an unusual structuralprogression ending in what feels like a celestial hymn-like prayer. Schnittke himself said: Suddenly I was given this finale from somewhere and I?ve just written it down.Available here is the study score for Schnittke?s emotionally and technically demanding Cello Concerto No.1. Shostakovich's eleventh symphony is highly programmatic a large-scale tribute to the 'victory' of the Great October Revolution of 1917 composed on the 40th anniversary of the occasion. The first of the four movements is called The Palace Square setting the sombre scene where the violent events of the day would occur and Shostakovitch includes two Russian prison songs. The second movement The Ninth of January pictures the workers' march through the streets and their slaughter. In memoriam is the title of the third movement a pensive requiem and in the last movement The Tocsin the spirit of revolt returns with militant songs and a triumphant percussive finale. This is a clear and well presented Sikorski Edition miniature score.
