A setting by John Rutter of this traditional sacred text for Full Mixed Choir and Soprano solo with a Piano reduction included of the Orchetra or Chamber ensemble arrangement. The Magnificat - the canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Luke I: 46-55) - traditionally formed part of the ancient service of Vespers in the medieval Roman rite. It has been set to music more often than any liturgical text other than the Mass itself. Rutter’s inspiration and motivation for this arrangement was the Mediterranean sunshine and the many exuberant festivals that are held throughout Europe to honour the Virgin Mary. The work is full of energetic syncopated rhythms andstrong melodies which evoke a celebratory and rejoiceful character.

This work sets late texts by Friederich Holderlin. The fragmentary poems have been edited together to create the text. Gedachtnis-Hymne was premiered in November 2010 by the New London Chamber Choir with the Rasher Saxophone Quartet.

Bruce Greer's We Are Thy People for SATB (with divisions) and Piano. This dramatic and majestic anthem sets verses from Isaiah starting with an appeal to God to show himself and his power followed by an admission of human sin finishing with an affirmation that we are all God's people. The choral parts are largely homophonic except for an effective unaccompanied fugal central section and optional high soprano notes are included towards the end for added dramatic effect. The Piano part makes full use of the instrument's range and features vibrant scalic and arpeggiated flourishes tremolos and rhythmic accented chords.
