BWV 1001-1006-J. S. Bach (1685-1750) was a German Baroque composer who is revered for the originality and skill of his contrapuntal and harmonic techniques. His Sechs Sonaten Und Partiten (BWV 1001-1006) werewritten before 1720 but not published until 1802 and only gained popularity towards the end of the 19th century. They are now regarded as the seminal work in the solo Violin repertoire and were among the first works to showcasethe technical abilities of the Violin. The Suite consists of 3 Sonatas each with four movements in the traditional slow-fast-slow-fast pattern and 3 Partias which vary with four to seven dance-likemovements. Contains two volumes with and without fingering.

Works for two Pianos-Whose ears are not instantly filled with the dreamy flute solo when Debussy?s 'Prélude l?après-midi d?un faune' is mentioned? Very few people know that before he wrote the orchestral score Debussy made a version for two pianos.Both versions should be seen as being independent and they differ in some details. The differences are revealed in our edition as are Debussy?s entries concerning the work in his copy of the score. The volume also contains theSpanish impression 'Lindaraja' and the three pieces 'En blanc et noir' in which Debussy addresses the horrors of World War I. Andreas Groethuysen one half of the famous piano duo Tal & Groethuysen provided the fingerings.

Sans doute doit-il en grande partie le fait que sa notoriété ait franchi aussi rapidement les frontières de la Bohème aux nombreux amateurs de musique exigeants qui prenaient plaisir à jouer ses ?uvres. En effet il était très courant au 19e siècle de jouer de la musique chez soi. Les ?uvres romantiques de Dvorák pour violon et piano op. 75 furent également conçues pour être jouées dans un cercle privé. La présente édition Urtext de l?op. 75 repose sur le manuscrit autographe de Dvorák. La préface donne de nombreux détails sur la genèse de cette ?uvre conçue au départ comme un trio à cordes.Cette édition a été préparée avec la précieuse collaboration du spécialiste de Dvorák Milan Pospísil.

Russian Quartets-Joseph Haydn's string quartet Op.33 occupy a special place amongst his works for quartet. After not having composed any string quartets for almost ten years this series written in 1781 marked the beginning of a long phase ofcontinuous work on the genre up to the last unfinished Quartet Op.103 in 1803.Moreover they are the first string quartets that we definitely know he wrote with publication in mind. A new contract of service in 1779 not onlypermitted the Kapellmeister at Prince Esterhazy's court to take on external commissions for compositions but also to arrange for the circulation of his works thus generating extra income.

The best known example is the ?Rhapsodies Hongroises? for Piano which made the characteristic syncopated rhythms of the ?puszta? melodiesand the fiery temperament of the ?csárdás? famous throughout the world. The popularity of these very demanding showpieces for the Piano is shown by the countless arrangements which even include transcriptions for Orchestra.

The names of the composers included here read like a ?Who is Who? of the heyday of Bohemian musicians and composers from the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. They include F. Benda J. Stamitz J. L. Dussek and J. B.Vanhal in their time names that were known throughout Europe and who predominantly worked at noteworthy courts in different countries. Today their music is largely overshadowed by that of Haydn Mozart and Beethoven. Yet theBohemians particularly excelled as far as the Violin sonata was concerned. Our two volume edition will provide the curious (and indeed already quite advanced) violinist with a colourful bouquet of worthwhile discoveries.

À l?époque classique et pendant une grande partie du 19e siècle les trios avec piano consti-tuaient pour ainsi dire des articles très tendance. Il n?est donc pas surprenant qu?après Haydn et Mozart Beethoven se soit lui aussi essayé à ce genre et ait laissé en tout 13 trios avec piano. Ce deuxième volume contient les deux trios avec piano op. 70 le trio op. 97 ainsi que les va-riations sur la chanson «Ich bin der Schneider Kakadu» op. 121a. Comme souvent le surnom de «Trio des esprits» du trio op. 70 no 1 ne lui a pas été attribué par Beethoven lui-même mais tient sans doute aux sonorités particulières un peu lugubres du mouvement lent. Le trio op. 97 est dit «del?archiduc» en référence à son dédicataire l?archiduc Rodolphe. Il s?agit certainement du trio avec piano de Beethoven le plus significatif mais aussi le plus long puisqu?il dure plus de 45 minutes. Bien que composé dès 1810/11 il ne fut publié qu?en 1816.
