Faber-Music - Choral SATB

For centuries composers have been inspired by the beautiful O Magnum Mysterium text depicting the birth of the new-born King among the lowly animals and shepherds. This setting for unaccompanied SATB divisi by Morten Lauridsen one of America’s most loved and most performed living choral composers is rich in colour deeply spiritual and intensely moving. It is rated as 'reasonably straightforward' to sing so suitable for the majority of choirs. A Piano part is included in the score for rehearsal purposes only. Never To Forget. Never To Forget is a powerfully emotive choral work written in honour of the NHS health and care workers in the UK who died caring for others during the COVID-19 pandemic. The text comprises their names, each sung separately in turn, in a poignant and moving homage. The piece is designed as a living tribute, to memorialise their dedication and sacrifice through each performance. This is a work of remembrance, respect and gratitude for these courageous workers, never to be forgotten. The work is scored for SATB choir and chamber ensemble, with this vocal score including a piano reduction. Instrumental parts are available to hire from hire@fabermusic.com.

Mama Moreton sings When you’re good to Mama to indicate to the prison inmates how the world really works. She is deeply cynical, knows the ways of the world and controls the purse strings of the prison, but she also turns out to be compassionate – a mother figure to the other inmates. This song requires sassy singing and good communication skills; to convey the double meanings, use careful timing, facial expression and, for the more daring, staging too! In We both reached for the gun, Roxie is accused of killing her violent lover and Flynn’s argument is that they both ‘reached for the gun’ at the same time – Roxie had no choice but to kill him, or she would have died. In the staging, Roxie is portrayed as Billy’s mechanical puppet, which is why the music has a certain mechanical, even clockwork quality to it. This is a patter song, full of long streams of words, so take care not to go too fast.
