Orpheus With His Lute is a work by Thomas Hyde for Unaccompanied SATB Choir. Dedicated to the memory of the late John McCabe this work is a setting of lines from Shakespeare's Henry VIII. A full performance lasts around 2 minutes. A review in the July/August issue of Choir and Organ magazine stated 'Hyde prioritises communication of the text in a direct manner and the work is only two minutes long but here the style is a perfect recreation of the mid/late 20th-century English partsong.

Ed. critica di Alessandro Borin - ril. brochure-La Gloria E Imeneo RV 687 belongs to a group of so-called ‘French serenatas’ by Antonio Vivaldi namely a series of works composed and performed between the mid-1710s and mid-1720s of the eighteenth century in celebration of important recurrent and non-recurrent events relating to the Kingdom of France and its diplomatic representatives resident in Italy.This serenata was indeed commissioned from Vivaldi by the French ambassador in Venice Jacques-Vincent Languet Count of Gergy on the occasion of the wedding of Louis XV to the Polish princess Maria Leszczyska and was performed during a festa that took place inthe ambassador’s garden on the evening of 12 September 1725.This critical edition is based on the autograph score held by Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria of Turin. It also includes an Introduction that describes the genesis and the first performance of the Serenata the state of the sources and its musical content. The critical edition includes an apparatus that records all the variants between the autograph score and the secondary collate sources and a diplomatic- interpretative edition of the poetic text inferred – since no libretto has come down to us – by the words underlaid to the notes in the manuscript of the serenata.

This volume contains six of the best choruses written for the stage. Taken from the Savoy operas they have been suitably arranged for choral groups of any size. Some of the pieces originally composed for 'solo voice' ensembles may lend themselves to being sung by a solo voice however would be equally affective when sung 'tutti'. Verdi penetrated the tormented sensitivity of her soul as he visualized her in his music transforming her individual fate into a universal representation of human suffering. His compassion for her however met with bigoted censure: the bourgeois public scandalized by the presence of a kept woman as a character on the stage gave the opera an icy reception at its premiere in Venice (Teatro La Fenice 6 March 183). Certainly an inferior cast for the occasion did little to help. Only the following year when La Traviata was revived for another production in Venice (Teatro San Benedetto) did the tale of Violetta manage to overcome this prejudice and win the unconditional esteem it so deserves.

The writing of a Requiem is a special challenge for any composer. The great Requiems of the past by composers such as Mozart Verdi and Berlioz interpret the sacred Requiem text literally offering prayers of salvation for the departed whose souls are assumed to be in purgatory facing a terrible judgement. Eternal Light: A Requiem by the award-winning British composer and internationally acclaimed broadcaster Howard Goodall is a stunning new requiem for the modern day. In contrast it is intended to provide solace to the grieving reflecting on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them withpoems in English. Speaking about the work Howard Goodall said 'For me a modern Requiem is one that acknowledges the unbearable loss and emptiness that accompanies the death of loved ones a loss that is not easily ameliorated with platitudes about the joy awaiting us in the afterlife. This like Brahms’ is a Requiem for the living addressing their suffering and endurance a Requiem focussing on the consequences of interrupted lives.” This piece of sheet music was commissioned by London Musici (Artistic Director: Mark Stephenson) to celebrate its 20th anniversary. It was commissioned as both a choral-orchestral-dance piece for London Musici The Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford and Rambert Dance Company (Artistic Director: Mark Baldwin) and as a choral-orchestral work.
